Good evening.
Regarding the pressure hose that runs to the pressure sensor in the control unit (ECU):
After I wanted to properly install the components of my LDA, I took off the washer fluid reservoir during Christmas. (A drop of oil on each wiper arm attachment would have saved me 30 minutes with those things – they were stuck solid – VW's cost-saving policy). During the same action, I checked what VW *didn't* replace during the €950 major service at 90,000 km, even though it was listed on the invoice .
The following picture has emerged for me:
http://home.arcor.de/doncorleone77/pics/auto/Filter.jpg
Filter (according to the invoice) was replaced before 20,000 km... it was completely full of dirt and mold .
http://home.arcor.de/doncorleone77/pics/auto/wasserkasten1.jpg
It looked like this...
I would advise every owner of a Volkswagen Golf Mk3 to remove the water collection box and verschandeln out the drainage channels! In my case, there was even some humus buildup in there, and the water was stagnant.

http://home.arcor.de/doncorleone77/pics/auto/Filter4.jpg
http://home.arcor.de/doncorleone77/pics/auto/Filter3.jpg
Overall, I was shocked by what I found in the water tank – it was a veritable 'wet and happy ecosystem'... all that was missing were frogs!
The STG hose was completely rotten; you could blow air through it with a whistling sound using your mouth.
However, the flat tire had absolutely no effect on the handling of my vehicle.
I had a huge hole in my hose, but no emergency mode or anything like that! Could it be that the leak in the hose caused my turbocharger to be overboosted for an extended period (too high boost pressure)?
And all of this with a mileage of 90,000 km...
Best regards,

Hello,
Not only did I remove the water reservoir, but also, logically following that, I removed the inner lining of the front wheel wells. At least, I loosened the few screws on the A-pillars. Just a year ago, I found buckets full of compost under there!
The trick with the tax hose is really ingenious. Do you live near an active volcano that uses the rubber hose like that?
Best regards, Robert.

The VTG adjustment was also stuck, but it wasn't the cause of the car entering emergency mode.
Hey guys,
If a stuck VTG (vehicle train control) isn't a reason to go into emergency mode, I don't know what is.
I'd be interested to know how you got your VTG (Variable Transmission Gear) working again.

Hello. The turbocharger has been disassembled.
Regarding the emergency mode and the VTG (vacuum train control) in my case: The VTG was not responsible for the emergency mode. It was probably stuck for a long time.

Hi Bonze,
Great to hear that your car is running again! You must have been through a lot to get it fixed.
Regarding the term 'specialist workshop,' there's not much more to say. But doesn't the phrase 'contract workshop' take on a whole new meaning here? How many of us have actually seen the contracts between workshops and Volkswagen? Perhaps it states something like this:
'§1: Each employee of the workshop should be instructed to extract as much money as possible from the customer through seemingly innocent tinkering. If this is not possible to the desired extent, at least 5 screws must be checked for looseness.'
Guided troubleshooting:
Error 1: The front right turn signal is not working. Solution: Replace the turbocharger. If that doesn't work, also replace the front right turn signal bulb. If it now works, then the turbocharger has been destroyed by voltage spikes in the kilo-ampere range ( ) due to the non-approved turn signal bulb that the customer installed. If the error is still not resolved, the customer should be referred to the state of the art.
Note to workshop management: Don't worry, the customer will return because all workshops have been instructed to operate in this manner.
The following paragraphs can be related to each person's individual experiences .
Regards,
Sure, here is the translation of the text from German to English:

Hello Micha,
Thank you for your words.
If this weren't so serious, I would laugh about it, but based on my experience, I have to say: that hits the nail on the head. You forgot to include the calculation for reading the error memory*. My colleague who works at VW says about the new cars coming off the assembly line: After they are delivered to the authorized workshops, they fix the defects, weld the doors shut, and put them in the showroom.
The issue with the pollen filter is definitely a nuisance. However, I have to say that there are probably enough honest and technically competent workshops/authorized service centers out there. Unfortunately, I haven't been able to find them yet.
Edit: I probably will never forget the sentence from the specialized workshop about the poor starting performance and their helplessness: Mr... if we continue searching now, it will become very expensive for you.http://images.rapidforum.com/smilies/paddel.gifhttp://images.rapidforum.com/smilies/paddel.gif
In some places, I heated it up and applied pressure for 30 seconds, and they're telling me all sorts of nonsense. Battery? No...it starts well when cold...http://images.rapidforum.com/smilies/paddel.gif

Hello!!
I've been looking for a workshop like this for 8 years... until now, I (or members of my family - all VW owners) have been ripped off every time during inspections at VW dealerships.
And if, as always, the windshield washer fluid listed on the invoice and filled before bringing the car to the workshop is simply listed as an item...
I've had the pleasure of asking the experts a few times what the obvious nonsense was all about, but unfortunately, I never got an answer.
Therefore: They can shove those 8 euros for the pollen filter where the sun doesn't shine; I now have my own new lift, and my beloved G3 will only be maintained by me from now on.
'@LZ: I also removed the fender liners once and had the fenders hollowed out and sealed. However, there wasn't any 'gunk' under the liners in my case... everything was perfectly clean. With my sister's G3 (almost identical mileage), we actually scraped out almost a whole bucket of it... It was really disgusting muck.'
P.S. My statement does not apply to all Volkswagen dealerships, but rather to all the ones I have personally encountered in various cities.
@Bonze: I hope you have a lot of fun with your car!
And try not to see everything in life as negative; it won't change anything anyway...
 Forward always, never backward.

Hello Kapernaum,
You're right. I'm feeling a bit better now, but the frustration is still deep. When I think about how long I had to deal with this and what it cost me...the outrageous prices of the workshops...and then all that nonsense: 'Intake manifold pressure? We've never seen that before...' 'R109...' 'Hmm...we need to read the error codes first.' 'VTG: we rarely see that...' 'Do you want to pay the €1100 now or transfer it?' And then there's the whole thing with biodiesel approvals... It just rubs me the wrong way and doesn't exactly speak well of customer service. Still, I'm trying to look at it positively because the car is running great again. The question is, what will break next? The catalytic converter is still the original one.*g*

I would also like to do a complete overhaul (excluding brakes), but for that, I would need an engine with overhead camshafts, pushrods, and ESP/camshaft drive via spur gears, as well as a crankshaft starter-generator. *sighs dreamily*
In this case, the car can be up to 5% heavier. This saves approximately €1600 in timing belt replacement costs over a lifespan of 250,000 km (4 replacements at €400 each).
Why didn't any major corporation develop a 'maintenance-free' diesel engine? With the right marketing, something like that would have been a huge success!
Regards,
Holger.

However, , even VAG has developed such an engine .
VFiguratively!
Why not do the same thing with the R4 engines?

'Yes, it seems that, just like the 'cleaning agents' item, this is a fixed and programmed part of every VAG invoice. After years of being annoyed by this, but too lazy to point out afterwards that the container was completely full, I now always ask before the inspection not to refill the windshield washer fluid. This works! However, it still escapes my comprehension why I should have to pay extra for cleaning agents, costing almost 4 euros, even for a simple oil change with an hourly rate of 65 euros!'

This is the new R5 PD-TDI engine, which is used in the T5.
Okay, interesting. However, this measure doesn't target the general consumer market (Lupo, Polo, Golf, Passat), but rather primarily commercial users, to whom it is more difficult to conceal hidden maintenance costs, and who tend to be more informed and forward-thinking – in other words, more professional – when purchasing a new car.
Now, purely out of technical curiosity: Since the camshaft in a PD engine (like in almost all car engines) is located at the top, I'm interested in how the large distance between the crankshaft and camshaft is bridged using spur gears. The gears can't be very big, so are there many small ones stacked on top of each other? How many are there? Are they lubricated by the lubrication system?
Regards,
Holger.

Hello Holger!
As far as I can remember, they must have been two chainring stages with chain gap adjustment.
The drive is not located on the "front" as is typical, but rather on the transmission side, because that's where the (torsional) vibration node of the crankshaft is located. This also eliminates the need to install a balancer .
The unit no longer has a V-belt, as the auxiliary components are driven by a tandem arrangement from the intermediate transmission stage. Lubrication is provided by the engine oil circuit.

The unit no longer has a V-belt either, as the auxiliary components are driven in tandem from the intermediate transmission stage.
Hopefully, the WAPU wave system has a clutch with shear pins, because if the WAPU gets stuck, it could cause a disaster. (Just like with timing belts.)

Holger.
