'You're right, I have a really old 1Z engine! I can't convert it to use a VNT turbocharger, nor can I install a GRA (gas recirculation system)! It would all require a huge amount of work!' It would probably be more worthwhile to install a more powerful engine directly, rather than just messing around with a VNT turbocharger.
I need a wiring harness, control unit, exhaust manifold, downpipe (!?), mass airflow sensor, air intake manifold, turbo, etc.
It would take too long to gather all the individual parts, and besides, you can get a used AFN or something similar, with everything included, for a cheaper price and it's much simpler.

The catalytic converter was also from the AFN model. I shortened the connecting pipe from the 1Z and welded it to the catalytic converter connection. It fits perfectly, as the AFN pipes are 2 mm larger in diameter.

To the best of my knowledge, the acoustic reflections of the 1Z and AFN models are the same in terms of pipe diameter.
