theory and reality often differ SIGNIFICANTLY .
That's correct!!!
And from a subjective point of view, the situation is quite different. The best accelerations are often not even noticed because the engine runs smoothly and the passenger compartment is well insulated.
Best regards,
Ernst

Does the 1.8T actually have a 6-speed transmission?
No.

Certainly! Please provide the German text you would like me to translate into English. I will only provide the translation.

I can't help myself. Actually, costs shouldn't really be included here. But never mind. Even though the 1.8 T doesn't fall short of the 1.9 PD TDI with 150 hp...
He needs about 17 liters for a 100 km test drive. You can get the TDI to run with less than 10!
Okay, now hit me .
achja ... Super 105 Cent.

Okay, regarding costs: what about the vehicle tax? I pay €280 for my AFN... My wife's car is exempt from vehicle tax for three years. You could calculate how many kilometers you would need to drive for it to be worth it.

Hi,
Okay, one car has an AFN engine, and the other car What is the fuel consumption of the gasoline engine?
With roughly the same performance and typical consumption ratios, those with around 20,000 km on the odometer are definitely worth considering.
Best regards, Rainer.

Sure, here is the translation of the text from German to English:
"Hi,"
However, no one should forget that the car can still be used!
I don't want to tow my caravan with a car that only has 150 horsepower.
1. No one can afford the gasoline.
"With the same power output, the gasoline engine simply has less torque, which is absolutely necessary given the vehicle's weight." Gruß Bertil

Hi Bertil,
"I can provide some specific numbers: Last year, we towed our small 600 kg caravan with my parents' Passat (1.8T, 150 hp), and this year with my Ibiza (ASV, 110 hp). The distance (280 km of country roads plus a little city driving) was the same, as was the driving style and the load."
Subjectively, the TDI felt more powerful, and I never had to downshift on any of the hills along the B 96 road. The average fuel consumption with the turbocharged gasoline engine was 12 liters, while the TDI consumed 7.8 liters.
The only thing that was faster with the 1.8T was overtaking, which involved a lot of throttle and high RPM in second gear (at which point the fuel consumption display would go above 70 liters...). However, this is also the only scenario where you can really utilize the power at high RPM – and even then, it's limited because a front-wheel drive car with something hanging off the back tends to spin its wheels when accelerating.
This year, the TDI consumed 4.4 liters without a trailer. My parents used their Passat with a trailer and consumed 7 liters on the way there, and then 13 liters on the return trip.

Hello!
So: The Passat has 200 kg more weight and a much longer, stepped transmission.
Please include this information in the driving performance chart. First, show the total weight as 2000 kg, then as 1800 kg. And then, give the Passat the same top speed as the Ibiza...
So, another comparison involving gear ratios and weights, which then served as a basis for comparing the engines.
With the weight and gearing of the Passat, the ASV would have looked extremely awkward.
BUT: the consumption figures still clearly favor the ASV, even though it might have needed a little more in the demanding Passat.
Best regards, Ernst.

Hi Ernst,
Unfortunately, I have to disappoint you regarding the transmission. While it might seem longer when considering the final rotational speed, it is actually SHORTER in the Passat.
"My TDI engine turns approximately 2000 RPM at 100 km/h in 5th gear. With the 1.8T, it's between 2300 and 2500 RPM. I haven't driven the car in a while, so I don't remember the exact number, but it was definitely over 2300. The gearing seems to be set up so that the engine reaches its maximum RPM close to the car's top speed. The top speed is probably around 220 km/h, and the maximum engine RPM is 6300 - that might be about right. The 100 km/h I mentioned are speedometer readings, which are realistically closer to 94 km/h (the deviation is the same for both cars)."
Regarding weight, you are absolutely right; the difference is around 200 kilograms.
Best regards,

Hi Jan!
You're right about what you said. I just meant something different.
When I say 'same length,' I mean that you can travel at the same speed in each lane throughout the entire section.
Okay, so if the first gear of a diesel engine allows for speeds up to, say, 40 km/h, and the first gear of a gasoline engine also allows for speeds up to 40 km/h, then they are 'equivalent' in terms of translation. While this isn't necessarily true when looking at the sprockets themselves... the final speed achievable in each gear is what ultimately determines the performance.
With a normally aspirated gasoline engine and a high-revving one, I can only compare gears if they both reach the same speed. Otherwise, I would have to give a Formula 1 car a very bad review.
Aber wenn du wieder mal mit dem Passat fährst, dann sag mir doch bitte die Übersetzung im 3. oder 4.Gang. So ein Km/h bei U/min würde reichen. Danke
Best regards, Ernst.

Okay, now let's talk about inclines. We'll compare the performance of four-cylinder Golf models to keep the weight relatively similar. We'll be driving on the highway in the highest gear.
BUT: 3% incline and a 600 kg caravan!
The 1.8T engine, a special case among the gasoline engines, achieves the highest speed, while the diesel engine with the same power output remains slightly behind.
The comparison between the two engines with 115 horsepower clearly favors the diesel engine.
And you will soon see why the 100 HP PD also absolutely had to be included in this diagram .
[Image removed, a more realistic image is now below, where the caravan also experiences air resistance .
Best regards, Ernst.

... just for me!!
Okay, seriously now:
The 100 horsepower PD model keeps up well there.
Unfortunately, my base car (Variant) is about 90 kg heavier, and my caravan weighs 400 kg...

The diagram should not encourage people to drive at the maximum speed with their caravan .

... what else would it be? Gruß Bertil

Here's the improved diagram:
All Volkswagen Golf 4s... they're all driving in the second-to-last gear.
There is currently a very steep incline of 2% on the highway.
The caravan now weighs 1000 kg (coincidentally), and the air resistance has been calculated for the caravan (I think that's really useful ).
Simply increase the air resistance value in the calculation table to approximately 1000 N.
Camper van + incline = 100 hp diesel outperforms 115 hp gasoline engine.
The 1.8T performs well, but overall, the 150 hp diesel likely offers a better driving experience when towing a caravan, thanks to its 6-speed transmission.
Best regards,
Ernst

Hi!
WWhat's that?
Best regards,
Uwe
