Probably none of us (if "light" refers to low beam headlights, parking lights don't count), but you can see it on many cars.

It's me again - and anyone else who has new VW cars with a 4-position light switch can do this too.
The vehicle's body control module turns on the lights when the ignition is switched on (provided the switch is set to "tunnel" or "on"). The engine only starts in the next position of the switch. Transparency, Teamwork

"Can" doesn't mean that someone will actually do it, right? (That was the question anyway... who would even do something like that?)
I can also turn on the ignition by flipping the light switch to the "on" position and then start the engine. In that case, the low beam headlights will come on first, briefly go off during starting, and then come back on.
"But battery and light issues are a real problem, aren't they?"

You're right, Jan, about the conventional light switches.
"I only use the automatic headlights (most of the time) if I already have them."
The switch remains in the "on" position, and the car turns off the lights after the "Coming Home" time period. When starting the engine, it either activates the lights during the "Leaving Home" phase or, at the latest, just before starting.
There are no more X-relays or "temporary re-activation."
That means you only experience "hot vibrations."

I don't have any other lighting functions besides "Coming Home," and even that one I've only tried once. It doesn't really make much sense anyway, since I usually drive between my home garage and the (expensive) parking garage at the airport.
If anyone is interested in the brand new and quite expensive Osram Nightbreaker, I installed them yesterday in a Golf 4 with standard Hella headlights, and I can say that they are incredibly bright. I wouldn't have expected so much light to come from an H7 bulb! The brightness was definitely comparable to a current Passat (with Xenon), and considering the warmer color temperature, it was even noticeably better on wet roads. Unfortunately, the expected short lifespan and high price prevent me from using them myself. For twice the price of a standard lamp, I would still buy them because they are (subjectively) twice as bright. But not for almost four times the price... Hi Jan,
I suspect that "severe" vibrations with strong high-frequency components are the worst culprits when it comes to damaging lamps (a prime example being accidentally letting a car hood slam shut).
Since the transmission paths between the road and the lamps, as well as between the engine and the lamps, are largely different, the "input vibrations" will undoubtedly be filtered differently.
Therefore, the effects of things like cobblestones or engine idling on the glow plugs, and their potential harm, cannot really be assessed from our perspective in this world.
Therefore, I find it quite conceivable that turning off the engine while the lights are on could be more damaging than the usual road imperfections. Flightmaster's experiences certainly seem to suggest this. Gruß Ulf

Two days ago, DSF Motors published a short report on an H7 headlight test comparing these 'highest fiest super dupper xenon blue white' products with branded lamps.
Philips emerged as the winner with its new X-treme line, surpassing Osram (I believe that was the Nightbreaker). The rest of the products, which unfortunately weren't identified by name (only those attractive packages labeled 'Xenon xy' were visible), could be completely disregarded. The Philips X-treme had double the lifespan of the Osram bulbs because, among other things, Philips is the only manufacturer worldwide that uses quartz glass for the bulb casing. This has the advantage that the lamp is insensitive to moisture and water splashes. They made a clear comparison by simply spraying water onto the illuminated lamps, which immediately caused the non-quartz glass variants to fail. Furthermore, the Philips bulbs offered slightly better illumination and range on the road.
P.S.: I've been using the Philips Vision-Plus bulbs (+50%) in my Golf V for 2.5 years and 90,000 km, and I'm extremely satisfied. They provide significantly more light on the road, and their durability has been good so far.

Hi there,
I don't think the practice of shutting off the engine is easily transferable. When I see how companies like PSA are stopping engines (it only started in 2001 with the first piezo injectors, marking the beginning of the "valve deactivation" era) there:
- Tax pressure high-pressure regulator = 0 = minimum TV (TV likely refers to a specific setting or value).
- Interruption of power supply to the fuel pump.
-Stopping by interrupting the control signal to the CR injectors.
-Interruption of the control signal to the power amplifiers (MSGR).
Note: The shutdown commands are given in a different order each time the engine is stopped so that the fuel injection control unit can perform a diagnosis.
Please provide the text you would like me to translate from German to English. I will then give you only the translation, without any explanations.
Sometimes the engine jerks violently when the ignition is switched off. Recently, I drove an ASZ (engine type) in a Golf 4 again, and you don't really notice how a TDI dies out when you regularly drive other vehicles. Therefore, I see this less as a problem. However, it is possible that voltage spikes occur when switching off the engine due to the low speed of the generator. Peugeot 307 (T5)1450kg Speck, RHS, MJ2002, 138g CO2 inkl. I drove the Passat back from the workshop in the neighboring town. Then we swapped cars again, and I found that the Nightbreaker headlights, with their warmer light color, performed better on the wet road. With the Passat, the road was barely illuminated properly, while the roadside poles and signs were more likely to cause glare. For two people sharing a room, it didn't sound too bad (prices per item/unit).
1. Philips H7 for €5.95. |
Today, I wanted to buy 4 of them.
But then, for the cheapest Philips bulb that was in stock, the guy wanted over €10, and the standard Philips bulb that wasn't in stock should cost €8 .
For about €5, you only get a generic, no-name H7 bulb there . I can buy the "Unitech H7" in a double pack from Globus for about €850 .
Just learned something again: when you get surprisingly cheap prices over the phone, always write down the name!
Perhaps I'll just do it for fun and repeat the same request in a few days...
The next best "maybe brand" offer in my area would be a Normfest H7 bulb for €6: http://www.normfest-shop.com/cms/wm?catId=8289&CmiProdId=3720%20064%20201
Since Normfest partially distributes products from Philips.
(see http://www.normfest-shop.com/cms/wm?catId=8289&CmiProdId=2a850f66da2a105d721fffb1c82ed7fb), could I possibly get a Philips Premium (which is the basic type) there? I will inquire further about that in the next few days. Gruß Ulf

The Unitec double blister packs, for example, have contained these "AMA" lamps for ages at stores like OBI and Marktkauf (located in the east). The brightness of these H7 bulbs isn't particularly impressive, and the manufacturing tolerances sometimes cause the filament to be misaligned. As a result, the headlights equipped with them often produce excessive glare. However, the durability of the AMA bulbs (although my partner uses them as H4) is quite good. They have been in use for 3 years (or 70,000 km), and my partner habitually drives with her lights on. The H4 versions also seemed to be manufactured more precisely.
The "DEPO" lamps, offered at Bauhaus for a price of €4.99 in a red/yellow cardboard blister pack and marketed as H7 bulbs, seem interesting. I recently installed them in a Ford Focus at the request of a colleague. One bulb had burned out, so I initially replaced it with one of the "DEPO" lamps I brought along. It was noticeably brighter than the other working lamp. So, I replaced that one too. The brightness and manufacturing precision were convincing. According to the packaging, the "DEPO" lamps are also "Made in Germany."
I actually installed two "Hella" headlights (which someone had previously offered). The one that failed had a filament completely broken across its entire length. In addition, both headlights had gray, milky deposits on the inside of the glass bulb (except in the area above the filament). Does anyone have an explanation for this? By the way, the failed "Hella" headlight lasted exactly 14 months or 16,500 km in that specific Focus. It was installed at the beginning of October 2006 by a Berlin gas station workshop for a price of 7.50 EUR each.
A friend of mine who runs a car parts business actually carries "Bosch" products. How good are their light bulbs? Automobile Zeitzeugen: |SUZUKI Swift Sport (2008)| |Smart 450 (2002)| |Honda CB 125 F (2018)|

Yes, that's Wolfram from Glühfaden. Based on this, it's clear to me that the "halogen effect" (which is supposed to prevent these deposits) didn't work. Why? Possibly because the halogen mixture in the bulb wasn't sufficient.

Almost every new lamp appears brighter than the old one when compared side-by-side on a wall.
I had already tested an old bulb with a +30% rating against a new H7 bulb: they were about the same in terms of brightness.
If you always replace "Super Premium" etc. in pairs, the "Bo - Ey" effect will always occur - please make sure to always change them pairwise .
From a scientific perspective, the color spectrum would need to be compared with factors like color temperature and power consumption.

What I can definitely say is that even with Berners, I experienced both "air leaks" and inaccurate filament positioning in the 100-meter spools. The price isn't everything, you know.
So far, I haven't experienced any issues with Trifa. That's why I consider it to have a good price-performance ratio.
