It communicates with the board network control unit via LIN, which then controls the alternator accordingly, sends a request to increase the idle speed, and may also disconnect various control units from the board network.
The entire system is quite complex and makes sense in a connected vehicle with the appropriate infrastructure.
Completely unsuitable for retrofitting.
