Hello,

In most four-stroke engines, the connecting rod is drilled. Oil is forced through the connecting rod bearings and travels through the connecting rod, exiting at the piston pin. Some connecting rods even have a spray hole to cool the bottom of the piston with the oil that exits.

Best regards,
Christian.

Question: How / through which path does the piston pin actually receive the oil it needs?

Typically, the connecting rod is drilled through and receives oil from the crankshaft, which then directs it to the piston pin.

'A common problem with PD engines is the connecting rod bearing. It's not uncommon for a connecting rod eye to fail. The noise is quite noticeable because the piston hits the top of the cylinder. In this case, the engine should be immediately shut down and not restarted until it can be inspected by a qualified mechanic. What exactly is happening with your engine?'

Regards!

Oh, I always thought that connecting rod bearing damage was mainly caused by excessive stress (a lot of throttle) at low RPMs. (TDI below 1800 RPM). You always learn something new! icon_biggrin.gif

So, unless I'm completely mistaken, AMF is printed on my car, for example, under the trunk mat on a sticker. The car is not a 'reimport' (what exactly does that even mean?), but it was purchased in Luxembourg and driven there as well. icon_wink.gif
It's a Polo 9N Sport Edition (I believe it was and still is only available here in Luxembourg), manufactured in 2003.

Hi,

"Reimports" are cars that are purchased in the EU - for example, in Luxembourg icon_wink.gif). Common countries for this purpose include Denmark or the Netherlands, where the very high taxes on cars result in lower base prices than in Germany, making the whole process worthwhile.

"For example, I paid around €13,000 three years ago for my ASV Ibiza after converting the currency. With the same engine, I would have had to pay over €18,000 in Germany (but then it would have been a sporty version instead of the Signo model, because that specific trim level isn't available here)."

"Re-import" refers to the situation where, for example, most Volkswagen cars are manufactured in Germany, then exported to countries like the Netherlands, and subsequently imported back into Germany by private individuals.

Your car, which you bought in Luxembourg, is essentially the same as a re-imported vehicle from our perspective (i.e., from Germany), and it's quite possible that this specific model was never officially sold here in this form.

Best regards,

January.
