The grooves in the PD shaft are located on the pump body and are usually above the sealing rings. If you need to sand them down, cover the shaft with a cloth while doing so. icon_idea.gif
There is also a tool consisting of three conical sleeves specifically designed for installing the shim rings.

Hello everyone!

I used 1000-grit sandpaper to remove the sharpness from the edges, being careful not to overly affect the sealing surface itself.

The pimples don't feel as bad anymore.

Thank you for the tip!
However, it took some effort, as I had to use sandpaper to get the job done.

Everything is sparkling verschandeln now. Tonight, I'm going to let the PDE soak in! icon_smile_thumb_up.gif

The PDEs are not going in!
Where and how is the best way to express that?

Should I force it in using the old screws and tension wedges?

Or, to put it another way: how can I tell if they are completely immersed?

According to a photo I took before removing it, the tensioner was previously inserted further in...?

Hi Stolli! icon_wink.gif

The new seals are supposed to work, right?
It's a bit stricter than usual, which is normal.
Carefully insert it straight in, with only minimal rotational movements if necessary; do not tilt or lever it. I strongly advise against retracting it using the tension screws, as the threads are already under enough stress.
...and of course, make sure to add plenty of butter icon_smile_thumb_up.gif.

Best regards from Munich!

A little bit of firmness is good; I'm already compressing the springs of the PDE. Do you have to press that hard? I'll try again with a twisting motion!

Thank you very much for your quick response!

Now they're going a little further inside.
However, how do I know that they are fully inserted? The only indication I have is the pressure marks left by the tensioning wedges on the sides of the central section...

Hi Stolli! icon_wink.gif

If they are mechanically at their limit and cannot be pushed in any further? icon_cool.gif
You can use the "Spannklotz" imprint as a reference.
Are you aware that the PDEs need to be aligned before tightening them (using new screws!! and paying meticulous attention to the torque??) ?

Hmm, that sounds logical! icon_smile.gif

However, if that were the case, they were already inside before. Only my entire weight helped to push them in a little further. Now, they might be inside, or maybe not... icon_smile.gif

Yes, I am familiar with the procedure for installing the PDE. However, does this process also risk pushing something further inside?

Okay, after struggling with this for an hour, I'm giving up for today!

Two PDEs seem to be working out reasonably well, but the third one definitely still needs some convincing.
I've been considering using a puller tool to force them further in.

Should I be careful and use a rubber mallet instead? Does anyone happen to have a photo that shows how far the dowels need to be inserted?

The PDEs don't actually go in that hard... lubricate the O-rings with a little grease. icon_idea.gif

I actually lubricated them quite generously with oil before I installed them.
Is it really advisable to retake the PDE exam now?

If they are already mounted, then no. icon_smile.gif I just don't understand why they fit so tightly for you...

It's a mystery to me too... icon_cry.gif

I think a photo showing the final result would be helpful.

If I were to retrieve the PDE now, I would probably have to replace the seals again, right?

If it doesn't fit properly and can't be adjusted into the correct position, you probably won't have any other choice.

The O-rings do not necessarily need to be replaced if they were not damaged when compressed.

Or should I force it in using the old screws and the clamping blocks?

"That also works. I've done it that way before. There were no problems. Push it in as far as it will go freely by hand, then use a spacer block to help tighten the screw gently. Don't forget to align everything properly before tightening."
