If it doesn't fit properly and can't be adjusted into the correct position, you probably won't have any other choice.

The O-rings do not necessarily need to be replaced if they were not damaged when pressed in.

But actually, shouldn't everything fit perfectly there? It's only off by a fraction of a millimeter, maybe 1mm or 2mm. I'm just basing my assessment on the pressure marks left in the housing when the tensioning blocks are loosely inserted.

That also works. I've done it that way before. There were no problems. Push as far as it will go freely by hand, and then use the spacer block to help tighten the screw gently.

"Oh, that sounds good! So you also had problems installing it. Could you tell me how many Nm of torque you used to tighten the screws when pushing the PDE into place?"

That's exactly what happened. I did this for all 4 injectors on the AJM engine. I positioned the sealing ring at roughly a right angle and pressed it in by hand, without twisting it back and forth until it was fully seated. Of course, I oiled the sealing rings beforehand. Then, I inserted the retaining clip and used the screw to press the injector downwards. It turned very easily. Once it was in place, I loosened the screw again and aligned the injector perpendicularly to the edge of the cylinder head according to the instructions. Only then did I use a torque wrench. The tightening torque was 12 Nm, followed by three turns of 90 degrees each.
By the way, with this engine, the injectors were already so stuck when we removed them that it probably wouldn't have been possible without the special puller tool T10055. This isn't always the case.

Hi Steffen!

Thank you for the tip! I will try it that way too! However, just to be safe, I'll use the old screws first...

The process of pushing the PDE into place using the spatulas worked very smoothly!
Thank you again for your help!

But something else embarrassing happened! icon_redface.gif
A small piece broke off and fell directly into the oil pan through a hole drilled for an oil well!

At first, I thought: Damn, the oil pan has to come off! Possibly even after removing the transmission!
But then I had an idea: I took a strong magnet and was actually able to locate the bit. I can also push it towards the oil drain plug. Now I hope to be able to push it out through the hole!

Oil change is due anyway! But not when the engine is cold. Does that make a big difference? Should I change the oil sooner next time, say after 20,000 km?

Okay everyone,

Here is my preliminary report after the completion of the work.

I actually managed to extract the bit through the oil drain opening. It was quite fiddly, though! A small toolbox really helped.

And now it's running again. Now I have to wait and see if it starts up well in the future, and whether the oil consumption increases or not.

I also measured the LRR again.
Here are the values before and after:

Sure, here is the translation of the text from German to English:

"Before:"
Code:
22:16:54 Block 013: Leerlaufruheregelung (Einspritzmengenabweichung)
  -0.33 mg/H  Einspritzm.-Abw. Zylinder 1
  0.00 mg/H  Einspritzm.-Abw. Zylinder 2
  0.28 mg/H  Einspritzm.-Abw. Zylinder 3

Later:
Code:
00:11:16 Block 013: Leerlaufruheregelung (Einspritzmengenabweichung)
  -0.14 mg/H  Einspritzm.-Abw. Zylinder 1
  -0.28 mg/H  Einspritzm.-Abw. Zylinder 2
  0.38 mg/H  Einspritzm.-Abw. Zylinder 3

What do these values tell us?
Should I perhaps log something else as well?

You didn't log the LLR; you only took a snapshot (which is okay in terms of values). You can't see if values jump or drift over time like that... icon_wink.gif I think you haven't found the right button in VCDS yet.

Yes, you are right: that was just a snapshot! icon_razz.gif But it reflects the values that appeared most frequently.

If I create a log file, can I upload it here as well?

Does it make sense to record any data while driving?

That's exactly what I would do now. Only if success doesn't happen would I continue searching.

The values are good. I'm going to give you both thumbs up icon_wink.gif.

Okay, I've now driven 500 kilometers.
The starting performance is exceptionally good, but the engine oil level seems to be rising slightly.

Could it be possible that, on the one hand, diesel fuel is leaking into the engine oil, and yet, on the other hand, there's still enough diesel available to start the engine?

Which of the three seals could be leaking? And what do you think: should I redo the whole thing?

Well, that's exactly what a full system scan is good for. icon_wink.gif Where else would anyone be able to find that information?
