Error Code Diagnosis: What's Next?

Hello, brothers in spirit.

My mechanic just installed a TDI engine into an Iltis (yes, there are people who do that ). Of course, there are then some problems here and there. Overall, it runs well, but what do you do when you find something in the error memory? The diagnostic tool decodes the codes into text, but then... Does VW have a table that lists the error code, what the problem might be, and what you can do? Are they included in the '1Z' engine repair manual? As I said, I'm only interested in the engine, but I want to know about all possible errors.
