Golf IV TDI: Can Engine Control Unit Be Repaired?

My car has been in the workshop for two weeks . It sometimes doesn't respond to the accelerator. The throttle position sensor has already been replaced. Now, my workshop sent the engine control unit for repair. It was returned, and they said it could not be tested or repaired because there is no software for this device. It was used too rarely. Can that be true? After all, the Golf TDI 90 hp is not a rare car.
The VW part number of the device is 038906012GK. I believe it is manufactured by either Bosch or Telefunken.

Where was your workshop going to send, or did they send, the engine control unit?

You cannot officially send control units to Volkswagen for inspection or repair. The diagnosis must be made by the workshop itself, using all available tools (diagnostic testers, guided troubleshooting, etc.). If a control unit is found to be defective, the workshop can send it back during the warranty period and receive a new one. If it is outside the warranty period, the workshop can discard it and order a new one for you.

Were you at a VW workshop? If so, they probably ripped you off.

The engine control unit is definitely from Bosch.
