Hello fellow forum users,

Some chip tuners openly admit that they would like to protect their intellectual property through this means.
to protect, in addition to the engine identification fields.
also auch ändern die selection procedures in order to make it more difficult for competitors to copy.
Okay, I'm just going to assume that this also refers to fault diagnosis using VAG-COM.
significantly more difficult.

As much as I understand the motivation of tuners, especially given my interest in chip tuning.
And I'm worried about my diagnostic adapter, which I acquired here in this excellent forum.
Knowing that I won't be able to use it again if a motor control unit malfunctions.
It may display incorrect air mass readings or show false boost pressure patterns.

There are some things, like generally shifted values – for example, boost pressure – that can still be tolerated.
are, but with purely hypothetical values based on a rough estimate ('thumb * PI'), the situation would be much worse.
My chance to correctly identify minor issues like a faulty mass airflow sensor using VAG-COM.

What can I expect – or negotiate – from the chip tuner to ensure they are truthful?
reads out: boost pressure?, air mass values?

Isn't his 'expensive' knowledge more relevant to the start of the stimulation and the stimulation angle?

Herwig.

Hi,

Normally, changes to the characteristic maps do not distort the read-out measurement values. However, there may be exceptions or specific dependencies where, for example, two different measured variables no longer appear to correlate properly.

Copy protection processors should theoretically not alter the read measurement values in any way; if they do, such software becomes unusable because it would only function randomly.

Best regards, Rainer.
