ABS Error 00290: Causes and Fixes

Hello everyone,

Since my ABS light occasionally illuminates, I recently read the error codes and found the following:

2 errors found:
00290 - Pressure switch (F116) / Warning contact (F117)
35-10 - - - Intermittent
00290 - Pressure switch (F116) / Warning contact (F117)
16-10 - Signal out of tolerance - Intermittent.

However, the error database here indicates that error code 00290 refers to a defective rear left sensor.
Was ist nun richtig? Was ist unter dem Druckschalter gemeint? Where is it located?

Vehicle: Golf III AFN, year of manufacture 1997, with GTI trim (including brakes).

The interface is a 'VAG Interface 9141'.
The VAG-Com version is 208.2 and is registered.

You should consider upgrading your VAG-COM software. Your dealer should be able to provide a free unlock for at least VAG-COM 311.2. That's usually the standard procedure.
The reason I asked about the version is because older, cracked versions sometimes display error messages that don't match the error codes.

Okay, so it seems like the version installed on the laptop is probably a cracked version, or something like that?
I bought the laptop, including the measurement adapter, as a used item.

I have now downloaded version 311 as shareware, and the error number 280 appears, but of course, no text is displayed. Can I assume that the rear left sensor is defective, then?

Is it possible to test this sensor, for example, using a multimeter?

Is the unlocking feature useful from a software perspective? Actually, you can always look up the error codes in this very good forum. If it is useful, what should such an unlocking feature cost for private use? You're practically at the source, aren't you?
