Hello fellow DIY enthusiasts,
I'm having a frustrating problem with the software configuration of my engine control unit (ECU) for a...
AJM Passat Comfortline, manufactured in 1999.
Engine; ECU part number; Version; from year of manufacture;
AJM; 038 906 019 BJ; 812; 1999; (Code 2)
(use Shareware 3113, German)
The current coding is 00002, and I want to change it to 00012.
The questionable thing about it is:
I can overwrite the code in the encoding, but it doesn't seem to be getting consumed.
The communication seems to be working fine, as I can also change and save the workshop code.
I also tried it with the login code 12XXX, but it seems that's not necessary, as there was no difference.
I also waited for a certain amount of time, then turned off the ignition, etc., but nothing worked.
After that, for testing purposes, I tried the following:
Softcode 00012 and workshop code changed simultaneously, confirmed. After approximately 30 seconds, ignition off, then on, and re-logged in.
The new values were not adopted.
Is the softcode sometimes locked by default?
The car received reprogrammed engine control unit (ECU) data via OBD.
So, what do we do?
I would have to ship the control unit a long distance, which I would prefer not to do.
Sure, here's the translation:
'Thanks'
Thorsten.

Hi,
"As far as I know, the encoding change will only be accepted if there is a section (i.e., an encoding) in the file whose name matches the input."
If the tuner hasn't created a code like 00012, but instead something like 00312, you can try for a long time... Gruß Ulf

Hi Ulf, thanks for your input. It sounds logical so far, but it doesn't solve my problem.
Do you happen to know if the encodings were sometimes locked from the factory (which would be new to me)?
That means I would have to re-apply the old data, re-encode it, and then have the software changed again. I'm not sure if the good man can follow a different coding scheme, specifically the '00012' instruction.
It should actually work with that code right from the factory.
There is no more information available about the gear code. However, it should be accessible from the factory.
So, what's the best thing to do?
Sure, here is the translation of the text from German to English:
'So long'
This phrase is a common way to say goodbye in English. It is similar to the German phrase 'Auf Wiedersehen'.
Here are some other ways to say goodbye in English:
* Goodbye
* Bye
* See you later
* See you soon
* Have a good day
* Have a good evening
* Have a good night
I hope this helps!
Thorsten.

I suspect you might not be able to handle this problem... Have you been able to set the MSG with the standard software to code 12? Gruß Ulf

Hmmm...
I only have the 019CE as an original AJM part, but it's also from the end of '99.
and should not differ significantly from the original model.
There is no encoding 00012 available! It is not предусмотрено by the manufacturer and therefore cannot be selected.
(Nothing is being blocked here).
Best regards,
Rudi

Thank you for the information.
I think I'm stuck with a bad deal.
I just spoke with the tuner, and he thinks it probably wasn't installed from the factory.
I was just trying to shorten the moment of silence by using a different control method.
Too bad, so it looks like the change to code 00005 for all-wheel drive vehicles without ESP, with an additional 20 Nm of torque, won't happen.
Is there another option?
Thank you for the great support, nonetheless.

The all-wheel drive coding should ideally be 00003. However, the identification fields are the same for the CE model.
to the standard 2WD version. Unless your tuner has adjusted something, nothing much should happen.

Is that still the 'old' ECU with the 6 Torx screws?

Yes, it should.
I now have the original version... It's quite different from the CE model (it looks more like a modified MSA15).
Four blocks are also included; the code 00005 is possible (in addition to the ones mentioned above).
However, the torque curves are the same for all three shift gear encodings.
Best regards,
Rudi

Yes, it would have to.

I just meant that because then you wouldn't be able to flash it either via OBD or on a bench.
This is one of the first EDC15 units without flash software stored in the memory, and it contains an AM29F400BT chip.
My AJM engine, a 019AM model from 2000, has the same ECU. Nothing can be accessed or modified via OBD (tuning), not even with an original VAG tool.

I can only dial 00001, 00002, and 00003 on my AJM. The ECU is also the original 019CE from 1999.

The 019CE model only recognizes the 001, 002, and 003. The 019BJ model (which is older) also recognized something else.
the code 005.

@everyone Thanks for looking into this.
The 19BJ is definitely flashed via OBD, as mine already is.
I tried entering the oo5 code again, and it was accepted, so the communication with the control unit is working. However, unfortunately, it disables the ABS/ASR, and the warning light in the cockpit remains on continuously. That's why I reverted the coding.
@Rudi:
If the torque curve is the same, then it's simply not interesting.
But still, thank you for your effort.
I'm not very familiar with VAC-COM yet, but the thermostat for the coolant temperature (I assume) is reaching a maximum of 78.8°C even when the engine is idling and the accelerator is pressed, which seems a bit low, doesn't it?
I believe the boost pressure is also about 0.2 bar lower than it should be, if I interpreted it correctly. I didn't write anything down during the tests, but I'm glad that the data logging was working while the car was stationary.
I can't use my laptop right now; the battery seems to be defective.
'However, the loss of power when starting up can't really be due to the coolant temperature sensor. I think it's more likely to be noticeable at higher speeds and possibly during acceleration above 3,000 RPM.'
So long  .
Thorsten.

Interestingly, you already have the newer EDC15 version installed (the metal one with 4 Torx screws).
So far, I've only worked with 019BJ } using the old ECU, but you never stop learning.
Regards,
Matthias.

Getting a TDI engine to reach the thermostat's operating temperature while idling in the winter is almost an art.
Only when the coolant hose leading to the radiator becomes completely warm/hot, significantly below 90°C, is something wrong.

At approximately 12,000 RPM below operating temperature, AFAIK no TDI engine exhibits noticeable power drops. Gruß Ulf

The 19BJ definitely flashes via OBD, mine is already flashed.
Are you absolutely sure? The person from whom I obtained the original, also believed that it couldn't be accessed via OBD.
However, when removing the ECU, there are tools available that allow programming the chip without desoldering. It's possible that something like that was done to your ECU.
Best regards,
Rudi
