Hello,

Does anyone know how to check the mileage using VAG-COM or another software?

I mean, is it possible to compare the mileage reading on the dashboard with the one stored in the control unit?
Apparently, the mileage should also be stored in the control unit of new VW cars.

However, I don't know if that's actually true.

Thank you in advance.

"In newer vehicles, such as the current A6, this is possible. In older models, the mileage (often together with the operating hours) is also stored in the engine control unit, but it cannot be read through normal means. To access this data, one must directly examine the EEPROM and know exactly where to look."

Oh, so it doesn't work with VCDS?
As you describe it, it seems to be quite complicated.

No, not even with any other standard diagnostic device.

Yes, it is. First, you need to know how to read the data, and then you also need to know where and how exactly the relevant information is located.

I think that to check something like this, you can only do so with the responsible dealer (service booklet) or by calling a previous owner. In the future, things like this will become more difficult, thanks to the new vehicle registration documents icon_lol.gif.

As far as I've heard, you can still call the authorities and inquire about the previous owners (for a valid reason, such as purchasing the vehicle).
Otherwise, just call any VW workshop, provide the vehicle identification number, and ask about the last service visit and the mileage at that time. Of course, this won't be helpful if the cars have always been serviced at independent workshops.

Let me guess... For this information, you have to pay 5, 10, 15, ??? EUR.

There it is, the authorities have found a new source of revenue icon_evil.gif.

"...and even better, I like the idea that you can get information by making a phone call. Haha. At least, in the Sauerland region, they still want to provide that information in hard copy. Besides that, I think it's generally not possible to simply release information due to data protection concerns. While it would often be desirable, it's unfortunately often not feasible."

However, if you have any specific doubts about the mileage reading on your car, I would suggest getting an expert opinion. Even a statement from a workshop is likely to have evidentiary value in a legal dispute only if it is confirmed by an expert. Unfortunately, this will likely incur significant costs, and you should be quite certain before proceeding.
Often, as others have mentioned above, there are good ways to find out the mileage of a vehicle. The mileage is also listed on a TÜV (technical inspection) report, but the last time I checked, I had to tell the inspector, and someone who was dishonest enough to sell a car with a falsified mileage would certainly not be truthful about it.

Okay... the wording was a bit poorly chosen. A phone call alone probably won't do the trick. The option of getting a ticket, waiting for 3 hours, and then paying 10 euros seems more likely.

Thank you for your active participation in my thread.

It's a shame that something like that isn't possible, because then it would be easy to catch those who tamper with odometers.

Greetings.

No way... this will never be easy.
