Hello everyone,
I don't know the engine code (MKB) for my A6 C4, model year 1996, with 140 horsepower.
I am getting the following error:
Knock sensor 1 (G61) 30-00 - Open circuit or short circuit after positive terminal.
What is the G61 knock sensor?
Thank you for your prompt assistance, as always.
Richard.

This is a sensor that detects knocking combustion. It is typically mounted on the bottom of the engine block and usually looks like an oversized, thick washer with a cable connection. For proper function, the sensor must be tightened to a specific torque; otherwise, it will provide inaccurate readings. The cost of the sensor varies depending on the engine, but it's generally around 50 euros.
I would first check the wiring to the sensor and any upstream connectors. Gruß

. . . but AFAIK, only on gasoline engines.
What's the actual question here: TDI or gasoline engine? 140 horsepower could be a 2.0 TDI, but the fact that they supposedly have knock sensors is new to me... Gruß Ulf

Hello,
It's about a 2.5 TDI, I believe it's an AEL engine.
It reads: 00523 - Knock sensor 1 (G61).
30-00 - Interruption or short circuit after the positive terminal.
Based on what I've found so far, 00523 is the part number for the intake air temperature sensor, which is located at position G42.
and the knock sensor 1 (G61) is 00524.
Richard.

Sure, those only exist for gasoline engines. That's what happens when you don't provide information about the engine - and when you're using a cracked version of VAG-Com . Gruß

Why was it cracked? I obtained the software about 3 years ago from a company in Dortmund.
bought.
I was told that it's a 'light' version, and not all measurement blocks are displayed.
Do I have the wrong version now, or what?
Richard.

Before we start with any accusations, you should know that I sent you something. After that, we can discuss things further.

Well,
It shouldn't be a case of false accusation, but it's typical for cracked versions to have error messages that are incorrectly assigned. Gruß

Thank you for the post; I will do it that way.
I still don't know what a G61 or 00523 refers to in the context of an AEL.
Richard.

Well, if I'm not mistaken, the...
00523 - Intake air temperature sensor - G42!
G61 would be 00524.

Oops, I completely missed that... but it's better to read it twice than not at all .
