Hello,
I have an engine from a 1998 Audi A4 Avant with SG number: 038 906 018 S. Someone has offered me an SG from a Golf (supposedly a Golf 4) with SG number 028 906 018 BG. The engine code is AGR. Will the software be compatible? Sure, things like the immobilizer need to be programmed, but I'm more concerned about the software that's already installed.
Regards,
Marc. VW 183-01, Iltis, 1.8l Benziner

Hi,
It might work (he will run it), but you should be prepared for error messages.
However, the AFN software should run within the STG.
Perhaps you could find a reputable tuner (not a chip copying service) near you who can...
the original 018S implant was used. The world shouldn't cost anything.
(If it's a larger store, you could offer them the option of placing advertisements on the Iltis.)
Maybe they will then support you in other ways ).
Best regards,
Rudi

Just the fact that someone is offering you a Golf 3 engine control unit (ECU) and claiming it's a Golf 4 unit would make me suspicious.
To my knowledge, the Golf 4 did not have any "028.." engine control units (ECUs), but only 038 series ECUs.

I don't know what the f*ck it was.

Hi Martin,
He probably just mistyped it. 018 was never included in the G3.
Best regards,
Rudi

Hi Rudi, if you know that, I'm wondering where you got that information from. Do you have a list of SG numbers and where they were used? That would be very helpful to me.
Sure,
Marc.

For example, you can find information like that in the Bosch ESI.
There are more programs available.

Hi Rudi, if you know that, I wonder where you found out. Do you have a list of the SG numbers and where they were installed? That would help me a lot.
I don't have a list in that sense. This is more like accumulated trivia that builds up over time.
if one deals with the subject matter.
Otherwise, it's pretty much as SD16 wrote.
Best regards,
Rudi
