'In my Galaxy, the engine is severely damaged (oil has been pushed through and it's dry) due to a turbo failure, and I want to replace it. I'm getting conflicting information about whether the engine from a Passat or a Golf will fit. Does the designation 1Z/AHU mean that the basic engine is always the same, and that it can be adapted to fit the Galaxy/Sharan by changing auxiliary components like the oil pan, etc.? And what about the turbocharger and exhaust system?'
'Does anyone know anything about this, or perhaps even has a working engine lying around?'
Who knows any reputable dealers?

Hi!
I can only say that I successfully installed a Sharan engine into a third-generation Golf without any problems. However, I used components from the third-generation Golf for the installation. The oil pan is the same. The intake and exhaust manifolds are also the same, which means the exhaust system fits as well.
I only had problems with the control unit. It didn't work with the Sharan. I don't know if the issue was with the control unit itself (being broken) or with the software (in the car).
It's probably too much work to modify the A4 engine, as it's a long engine and all the associated components wouldn't fit. I was advised against using it for the Golf.
Best regards,
Ralf
