Hello,

Today, the charger in my ATJ-Passat gave up.
I was told that a replacement part probably costs around 600 euros.
But I've seen them on eBay for prices ranging from 100 to 250 euros.
These included, for example, turbochargers for the 4-cylinder TDI engine with 150 hp, or for the AJM engine.
Unfortunately, I don't know if a turbocharger from a different engine with a variable geometry turbocharger (VTG) is compatible with the ATJ engine.

Can someone tell me what parts I can use without making any major changes?

Best regards,

Heuman.

me again,
would really be important:

Here, I've simply listed the alternative options that are currently being offered.

1.
- VW Part Number: 038 253 016 G
- Engine code: ARL
- Garrett - Turbocharger
- Type 721021
- 150 horsepower
- Side connection for liquid cooling.

2.
-Garrett
- Engine codes: ALH, AHF, AJM, AUY.
- 90-115 horsepower
- Connection to the upper LLK (low-level control).
???

3.
- Garrett turbocharger.
- 90-115 horsepower
- Part number: 038253019A
- Connection to the upper LLK (low-level control).

Unfortunately, I don't have the car here right now, so I can't check the connections.

The car, as mentioned, is a Passat Variant. It's from 04/2000, has the engine code ATJ with 85 kW, a 6-speed manual transmission, and front-wheel drive.

Thank you in advance. I hope the information provided is sufficient for a 'remote diagnosis.'

Actually, none of them fit!

ARL is not okay!

You have to modify everything else! On your Passat, the compressor outlet must point downwards!

Check it out around 8 AM!

Regards,

Manuel.

The engine from the Audi A4 130hp PD motor, AVF and AWX models, should fit. icon_exclaim.gif
Is this a VNT17 loader?

Does yours have 115 horsepower?

The turbocharger is a GT1749V... I don't know if that tells you much about the location of the connections, etc.

I've already noticed that the charger sometimes depends on the vehicle's VIN, at least according to the VW part number.

or are they ultimately the same after all?

What is the part number/model designation for the components used in the 130 hp engine?

I'm just looking for a cheap option for a replacement part that doesn't require major modifications or performance enhancements. (Of course, if it's possible to combine both, I definitely wouldn't mind icon_smile.gif).

Do you happen to know of any affordable dealers?
What are the risks associated with used, non-remanufactured batteries? I have an offer for one with 50,000 km of mileage.

Could the turbo damage have been caused by chipping?
(after a stage of 5-10 km ridden at full speed)
or what could have caused it? Could it be related to the oil circulation system, the material, or a chip?
It makes me wonder now that the oil light occasionally blinked when I turned on the ignition, even though there was enough oil in the engine.

Thanks for the answers.

The GT49V has a very, very large number of part numbers!

In my opinion, you can take them all!

If the turbocharger failed after only 10 kilometers of full throttle, it's certainly not due to the chip tuning!

More likely a material defect!

Manuel.

@heuman

How do you tell if the charger is broken?

@Manuel Thomas

Why doesn't the AJM fit? After all, the ATJ is essentially just a slightly modified AJM (specifically designed for a 6-speed transmission with 310 Nm of torque).

Best regards, WarLord.

Greetings, WarLord.

Because the offered motor is a transversely mounted one, and the compressor outlet is pointing in the wrong direction!

I already mentioned it, or is he going to modify the compressor?

Regards,

Manuel.

That's what I was referring to. I can't understand why someone would need to modify an AJM Turbo engine.

It's nice to know now that my vehicle has a GT17 turbocharger.

Best regards, WarLord.

I've edited my previous response because I only realized later what you were getting at!

He needs a connection to the LLK (likely a charging station) at 9 AM for his Passat.

Regards,

Manuel.

All vehicles with a transversely mounted engine!

Golf, Leon, Octavia, Toledo, Polo, etc.

Manuel.
