hello
I now have a G4 with a 110kW TDI engine (ARL) and I want to "tune" it up a bit more. I've found a solution for all the planned modifications, except for one.
"I'm still looking for a replacement for the dual-mass flywheel. Has anyone had any experience with this and knows if there's anything available on the market? For example, would the aluminum flywheels from the 1.8T (with a 240mm clutch) fit? Ideally, I'd prefer a single-mass steel flywheel, like the one that comes in the 220hp S2 (3B)."
I'm just unable to find any information about what would be suitable.
Best regards,
Christian.
Sure, here's the translation:
"P.S. Please don't lecture me about the point of tuning this car."

You could ask DRV-berlin (.de). They know quite well which of their flywheels can be used for which vehicles. Otherwise, I think the standard ZMS (single mass flywheel) is sufficient up to 200 horsepower. Keep in mind that your PDEs (pre-injection diesel injectors) limit your potential. You can't just replace them with new ones for 300€ and continue. Larger motorsport PDEs are apparently in development, but not yet fully mature. Golf IV - ALH - Erstzulassung 9/99

hello
At DRV, the people are always very unfriendly and immediately dismiss you if you mention it's about a diesel engine. I'm aware of the issues with PDE (pre-injection devices). By the way, you can order them in the desired size from Bosch Motorsport. However, for my goals, the original ones are sufficient. But I'm sure the flywheel won't last with the power I'm aiming for.

Well, they're not actually unfriendly at DRV, but whatever.
"I also have a 6-speed transmission with the code DRW in my 1993 Passat. Because I didn't want to deal with this heavy dual-mass flywheel, I simply installed a Fidanza aluminum flywheel from a TT. The flywheel has the part number 112181 from the manufacturer and the part number 40153 from DRV. The original flywheel is simply replaced. I drove with the original flywheel for several weeks beforehand, but now with the Fidanza aluminum flywheel, the car feels much more responsive."
With minimal modification, it is even possible to install a 228mm clutch from a G60 engine in the 6-speed gearbox, but it requires specialized tools.
Greetings.

@audi 80 tdi
You're from EA, that's great. I'm from near SM. What kind of power output are you aiming for, if the original 240mm radiator isn't sufficient?

hello
"Thank you very much for the order number and the information that it fits. Could you tell me if you have a cushioned or solid disc? I really want to have a cushioned one, but I'm not sure if it will fit. I think many gasoline car owners probably also want a cushioned one. Yes, I'm from EA. Are there other people around here who have converted their diesels?"
According to the person who will be programming my car's engine control unit (ECU), the modifications should allow for approximately 480 Nm of torque. That's a bit too much for the dual-mass flywheel. The automatic transmission and clutch are not a problem, as there are companies that offer solutions for those components.
best regards, christian

Greetings
why would he even want to install a smaller clutch if he's tuning his engine for more power, when every standard VW clutch already reaches its limit? just asking .

A G60 flywheel with an upgraded clutch kit is lighter and, above all, much cheaper than the original dual-mass flywheel (DMF) with an upgraded 240mm clutch kit designed for a 6-speed transmission. However, switching to an aluminum flywheel for a 6-speed transmission will also make it light, but it will be considerably more expensive.
It's clear that the original clutch kits are being overworked. However, the two reinforced clutches would certainly be able to handle the torque of his modified ARL engine. Ultimately, it's just a matter of cost.
