Wiper Problems: Troubleshooting & Fixes

Hi!

"For a few weeks now, my windshield wiper has been acting up... it turns on automatically, at the second-fastest speed, and doesn't stop wiping."
The last time it happened, I heard noises that sounded like running water.

Could it be that something isn't draining properly, or that water has accumulated somewhere?
Are there any "exit points" on the Polo 9N that might simply be clogged?

I already took it to the friendly mechanic, and they replaced some kind of switch under the hood. Since then, it hasn't happened as often.
It's also noticeable that this sometimes happens when I shift down to second gear...

Has anyone ever experienced this before? Or does anyone know what to do?

Hmm, there's a problem description from VW stating that the footwell can flood during heavy rain.
Solution: Seal the holes next to the hood hinges.

Unfortunately, I don't think your problem is related to that.
"However, please check the body control module (the "smart" central electrical system with many wiring harness connectors located under the steering column) for loose connectors and moisture. This module controls the windshield wipers in the 9N."
