A quick poll for everyone: My friend has an AFN and his turbo just died. Now he really wants to install a "bigger" one, for whatever reason. He does have a chip installed, but I still think the original turbo is perfectly adequate.

What do you think?

If he won't be swayed; which turbochargers are compatible with the AFN? If modifications are necessary, it would be good to mention them briefly.

Thank you in advance for your opinions on this topic!

The GT1749VA from AWX (long-engine) or ASZ (short-engine) is likely the most plug-and-play option. I would advise against using the GT1749V.

In principle, you would only need the seals and (very important) the quick coupling at the output.

Hi,

Most series turbochargers are "too small" for the higher airflow and exhaust gas flows after tuning. While the engine produces more power, the overall setup at Pmax is no longer optimal (excessively high exhaust gas pressure -> poorer gas exchange).

With a turbocharger that matches the power output, the Pmax efficiency increases, meaning that without further increasing the air intake, a few more horsepower can be achieved, which would otherwise be lost due to increased material stress.

Not surprisingly, VAG installs a custom turbocharger at every performance level.

When modifying engines, I would always take the opportunity of a turbocharger failure to install a better one, even if it meant a larger turbocharger hole.

Hi,

in diesem Fall würde ich ganz klar das GT1749VA empfehlen.

Mit freundlichen Grüßen,
