Hello,

Since I plan to (still icon_redface.gif) upgrade to a 12mm pump soon, and afterwards I want to run a high boost pressure, the question is whether I can keep my turbocharger (currently: GT1749VA) or if there will be a significant difference (in terms of performance and durability of the turbo).

To be honest, I'm not really keen on buying a new charger and having to install it again if it's not really worth it.

Question for the experts:

Would you leave the GT1749VA installed?
Does it hold 1.5 bar, or perhaps even 1.6 bar?

Has anyone had any experience with this?

Thank you in advance for any helpful tips.

Regards,
DJ1.

"VA with 1.5 bar? I doubt it. The VB is already having enough trouble."

VA with 1.5 bar? Probably not. The VB already has enough problems.

As far as I remember, the ARL system already operates at 1.5 bar with the VB series.
The vacuum is approximately 1.3 bar.

Surely, there should be some 'wiggle room' available?

DJ.

As far as I know, there are now about 4 revisions of the GT1749VB turbocharger because there were initially endless problems with the 1.5 bar boost pressure. You might be able to push the chargers in the latest series to 1.6 bar, but you need to be sure that you have one of those.
If you're already thinking about buying something new and want to do some serious modifications, why not consider a hybrid loader?

Hybridlader? Hmm, weiss nicht lohnt sich der Aufwand? I don't think so.

How can I identify the 'newer' ARL turbochargers?

I've also read that some people run 1.5 bar of boost on the GT1749VA turbo.

The VP2 valve in the shop should be able to handle 1.65 bar.

I think I just need to test it.

DJ.

I would try 1.4 bar. If you put in 1.5 bar, you should definitely set aside some money for a new bearing!
