Combo instrument - BC LCD visibility poor, etc.

Hi!

I bought a 2003 Golf 4 TDI 74kW PD model Pacific 3 weeks ago.
I learned from the previous owner that the car was involved in a minor accident on the left side.

Now, after 3 weeks, I'm seeing some defects that I want to fix!
First, I had to replace the generator regulator because it wasn't working.

1. The middle LCD on the KI is difficult to read despite the KI's good blue lighting.

The LCD lighting is intermittent, sometimes good and sometimes better. I think it's due to the light sensor under the speed needle. When I shine a flashlight on it, the LCD becomes brighter, and it becomes darker when I remove the flashlight.

I have also noticed that a blue wire is connected to terminal 12 (for the generator) on the blue connector of the KI unit, (I suspect that the previous owner tried to hide this error using this method). However, I still need to check where this cable is connected.

Then I also have problems with the fuel level sensor (the display on the dashboard is not correct). I have noticed that the float has fallen from the fuel pump housing into the tank. After repair, it is not much better. After a full tank and about 200 km later, the pointer is still at full. (it also took about 20 minutes for it to go from 0 to full).

P.S. maybe the KI is defective?

Wenn du Ihn vom Händler hat ist es sein Problem. Dann soll er dir ein neues KI einbauen. Das Problem haben auch die Audis bis MJ 2000. Dort ist es teilweise ein Temperaturproblem bzw schlechte Lötkontakte des Lichtsensors oder des Helligkeitsregelers.

Ich habe es privat gekauft!
Ich habe schon bei ae-bay ein anderes KI bekommen, ich werde versuchen das Senzor und LCD zu wechseln ob es was bringt!

Am schliemsten kann ich den KI auch umtauschen aber ich brauche noch die 4 st. pin kode von dieses KI und neues KI um es umprogramieren auf neues - oder?? es ist ein WFS III immo glaub ich!

Du brauchst die Fahrgestellnummer von dem Auto in dem das KI eingebaut war. LCD Wechseln geht nicht. Das ist eine festgelötete Folie. Den Lichtsensor könntest du evtl wechseln wenn du SMD löten kannst und die Ausrüstung dafür hast.

ich habe schon das 4 stellige Logincode von neuen KI, nur von meinem jetzigen KI hab ich die 4 stellige login noch nicht!
SMD technik (heissluftgeraet und feines lotkolben) hab ich!

Hab noch eine frage, wo liegt der Helligkeitsregler? Ich mochte es auch tauschen wenn es geht!
Gibt es wo ein schaltplan oder serviceheft won VDO KI's?

Dürfte in der Anleitung stehen. Beim meinem A4 ist der linke Pin im KI ein Drehregeler für die Helligkeit.

aaa, im Golf 4 ist es auf der linke seite bei der Lichtschalter! Aber der Drehregler fuer die beleuchtung ist ok, werde diesen nicht tauschen!
(ich dachte das es noch einem anderen Lichtregler im KI PCB gab )
