Hello.
Can the injectors be replaced individually on VW PD injectors, or does the entire injector assembly need to be replaced? I'm asking because the injectors are supposed to be replaced around 160,000 km.
Sure, here is the translation of the text from German to English:

Hi,
How will you test the nozzles after the replacement?
Best regards, Rainer.

Hi Rainer,
I just meant to ask if it's possible to unscrew the nozzles from the front of the pump and then reattach them to the pump element. Otherwise, a nozzle replacement, like on my ARL, would cost around 2000€ just in parts.
That's practically a brand new engine.

Hi,
You can, but without the testing equipment, it won't work.
Best regards, Rainer.

hm
It's something I've been meaning to look into, as there will eventually be a time when they need to be replaced. I don't want to end up with a hole in the piston.
For €2000, it would probably be better to get a replacement engine. I think you should be able to find one with a turbocharger and without any other attached components.
"A friend of mine has an ASZ engine with almost 250,000 km on it, and the injectors have never been replaced. The car still runs really well, and it doesn't have any chips or modifications installed."
Maybe it's all just a delusion. I think my car's engine control unit (ECU) is running higher injection pressures, which means the injectors will wear out sooner.
What do you think about that, Rainer? I actually want to drive the car until it breaks down, although I don't expect that to happen at 160,000 km.

Hi,
ARL and most ASZ engines have the same bore and stroke. Therefore, with the same amount of fuel and engine speed, the injection pressure is also the same.
As long as you are driving above the maximum speed allowed in the ASZ (Automated Speed Zone), the pressure in your PDE (presumably referring to a vehicle system) will be higher.
Or, conversely, a chipped ASZ engine, for example, with only 350 Nm / 155 hp, might have higher injection pressures at full throttle than your ARL engine. Gruß Ulf

Where do you buy your spare parts, or is the ARL an eight-cylinder engine?
The last PD element I bought cost 220 euros in Austria. That was from a regular retailer, without any special discounts. However, those who buy from pharmacies ("the friendly ones") still pay "only" about 350 euros per AT PDE. That's still less than 2,000 euros for 4 pieces.
By the way, I wouldn't worry too much. While 160,000 km is a limit often mentioned, the particulate filters (PDEs) don't usually fail suddenly at that point. It makes sense that issues related to sealing would occur, and that could happen even at 160,000 km.
As long as the MWB 13 (presumably a monitoring system) doesn't show any unusual readings, and the car isn't behaving in an excessively strange way, then keep driving! Only if something unusual happens should you react. Gruß Bertil

Hello.
Okay, that sounds reasonable.
I just wanted to inquire.
Thank you for your tips.
