Relay Explained: What Does It Do? (Image)

Hello!

I just replaced this relay because the positive terminal was burnt.
and the engine was making such a strange noise at +30 degrees Celsius.

I always thought that was the preheating relay, but I'm not entirely sure.
be, because 1. It's only protected with a 30A fuse, and 2. it's a bit too small for that.

1 x Thick derivative.
1x Thin derivative.
1 x 3-pin connector with thin wires.

Is it possible that this relay controls the water heater?

And in which car is that thing installed?

It looks like a Golf 3.

Is that the relay for the coolant heater?

Oops. It's a Vento TDI.

And where can I find the glow plug relay?

I've already searched everywhere in the engine compartment, but I haven't found anything.

It should be located above the central electrical panel (until around 1996), unless it's attached to the coolant reservoir (from around 1996 onwards).

Subjectively, the car feels different after the change.
It works much better with the large relay (at temperatures above +20 degrees Celsius).

If this is only for the coolant heating system, then...

It should still be connected to it and have a large 50A fuse nearby.

Today, I briefly removed the light switch.

The component located in the bottom right corner (103) in your photo is likely the glow plug relay.

Okay. That's correct.

I connected a wire from pin 85 and connected a button (to ground).
If I press that, it will 'light up' (you can tell by the interior lighting).
