Hello everyone!
Here's a question for you all.
For drivers of normally aspirated engines, a good exhaust system *might* offer some benefits.
I admit that not everyone who promises results actually delivers, but I once built one myself with a fan and a metal cat, and it actually worked well (producing both noise and power)!
For normally aspirated engines, optimal cylinder pressure results in better combustion chamber filling!

How about TDI?
'Would an exhaust system be worthwhile, or is it sufficient for aesthetic reasons to simply attach an exhaust tip to the original muffler?'
'Isn't the back pressure and filling level limited or regulated by the turbocharger?'

Sure, here is the translation of the text from German to English:

'Hello'

Hmm...

Before Rainer virtually whacks you over the head with a baseball bat because you seem to be one of those guys who hang out at the traffic light with a big exhaust pipe:

According to statements in this forum, and also in the American TDIClub forum, modifying the exhaust system seems to achieve absolutely nothing. Apparently, all possibilities were tried, including removing the entire exhaust system directly after the turbocharger outlet.
The performance improvements achieved were within the measurement error range.

It all makes sense: The engine control unit (ECU) regulates the amount of fuel/air intake. Performance increases achieved through parameters that don't directly affect the control behavior or the regulated values must come from a higher thermodynamic efficiency. However, this efficiency is already largely maximized in the standard engine.

Best regards, Georg.

A nice exhaust tip at the back of the original muffler, and that's it...

Hey Georg,
Thank you for your reply!
'No, it definitely shouldn't have a loud, obnoxious exhaust pipe on it!'
You don't buy a TDI to show off; you buy a Golf II without an air filter and with a great Group A exhaust system!

'Instead, it should have something similar to the oval DTM exhaust pipe found on Volvos with TDi engines, but pointing downwards.'

I just wanted to know if an ESD (electrostatic discharge) grounding strap is actually useful, before I weld one onto my ORG-ESD (presumably a piece of equipment).

'Thank you!!'
