Is it possible to install a speed control system in a TDI using inexpensive methods? On eBay, someone is always auctioning off mysterious instructions that supposedly allow you to build a speed control system using a regular button or switch and some wire. I just don't feel like spending money on something like that.

Does anyone have any information for me?

... Try searching here in the forum (it was about a Passat from '97). Here is a link to the instructions.
If necessary, I have other options available -> Email.

Okay, you can find the installation instructions and a wiring diagram on my website.

For my GRA (presumably a car feature) in my G3, I misused the switch for the rear window controls. It works great. The central locking mechanism is used to turn the device on and off, while the rocker switches are used to set and reset functions.

My adapter cable looks like this: [img][/img]

I could send you a schedule for availability if you're interested.http://www.jagiella.net{MARKER}http://www.jagiella.net/dirk/bilder/tempomat.jpg{MARKER}

Hello Diesel-Dirk,

I was on your page before, but I think I'll probably just leave it alone; I don't think I'm capable of doing it properly. Thank you very much, nonetheless.

Hello,

For most VAG TDI engines, there are GRA retrofit kits available (approximately €75).
That's definitely the better way!

Best regards, Jürgen.

Hello Johannes!
I bought an original GRA (glow plug relay) for my 1998 Passat on eBay for 86 euros. However, the installation is so complicated that, in retrospect, I would have preferred to just leave it alone. Despite that, I sat down with a friend one afternoon and installed the thing.
I can't imagine that 'a few cables' and 'a few switches' would be enough for that. The pins for the connectors must fit perfectly, and I'm not entirely sure what other electronic components are inside the turn signal switch itself.
Sure, here's the translation:

'Stay with the original parts.' That is definitely safer, and it's not really more expensive either.

If you don't know anything about it, it's obviously better to use original parts.

For a 1998 Passat, you still have to run some cables. The G3 already includes everything you need, and it works with a switch and two buttons.
