Do you buy your Zyko seals, valve lifters, etc. from the "friendly" [mechanic], or do they only install parts from "Elring and Co."?

Buy the Elring repair kit for the cylinder head! It contains all the necessary gaskets. If you're already taking it apart, I would recommend replacing all the gaskets completely. The repair kit costs only a little more than just the cylinder head gasket and valve cover gasket from the dealer.

I've had bad experiences with Elring in the past. I used Elring gaskets for the exhaust manifold and the downpipe on an Audi 100 gasoline engine. They were complete junk. They failed after less than 20,000 kilometers. Since then, I've only used original gaskets. The prices can sometimes be painful, but they last much longer.

'I've been working on cars of all sorts of brands myself for 30 years now, and I've often bought what were advertised as 'original gaskets,' where the packaging would say VAG, Opel, BMW, or even Peugeot. I'd unpack the gasket, and lo and behold, it would often be an Elring gasket. So far, I haven't had any bad experiences. I try to buy parts from independent parts suppliers whenever possible, mainly because of the prices.'

I can only share my experiences.

It's also possible that Elring offers two different product lines. It's similar to Bosal (exhaust systems). They are also original equipment manufacturers. However, what you find at places like ATU is often of very poor quality. (For example, a Bosal exhaust on an AUDI that was originally designed to last 250,000 km might only last 30,000 km if purchased from a retailer like ATU).

I'm not entirely sure, though. It's just speculation.

Here's another statement from Elring:

All the parts we send to the series go directly to the spare parts department, one-to-one (with the exception of the markings).
Two different qualities might be used for the exhaust system, which could last between 2 and ... years. A low-quality gasket would immediately lead to leaks.
