After the VW workshop confirmed my suspicion that my turbocharger (Golf 4, manufactured in 1998, engine code AHF, 143,000 km) will likely fail soon (whistling and occasional metallic grinding noises), I need a new one.
Can anyone recommend a dealer?
'Some are offered on eBay, but I'm not really sure about those. Does Schlütter sell to private customers? What are the experiences like? I once read that SKT was not recommended. And VW is really too expensive for me if there's a more affordable and durable solution available.'

...or what about repairing the turbo? Schlütter? Motair? Does anyone have experience with them?

So, repairing is too expensive. I would get a good, used one from a butcher for a maximum of 150 euros. Or, you could find one on eBay. It's best to immediately upgrade to a VNT 17 from ASZ or a similar manufacturer. They last longer! There's a chance you might need a different pressure hose because they have larger flanges. But it's definitely worth it! icon_wink.gif

At ****, some are offered, but I'm somehow not sure about them. Does Schlütter also sell to private individuals? What are the experiences like? I once heard a recommendation against SKT. And VW is really too expensive for me if there's a more affordable and durable solution.

Hi...

I paid 150 euros net for the new bearings. I think you'll probably have to pay around 300 euros privately. However, it depends on whether the other parts are also damaged. Regarding the price of a new one, just ask Schlütter; I've had very good experiences with them.

Hi,
Schlütter also sells to private individuals as well, via mail order. However, they don't repair all types of turbochargers. Garrett turbochargers with variable turbine geometry (VTG) are considered irreparable, except for the pressure sensor, for which they only offer new parts in exchange for the old part.

Genuine Garrett turbochargers are not repaired.

All the VTG loaders that I have cleaned so far due to acute contamination problems have been Garrett models. At least, that's my experience, and it seems to apply even to these models, especially if you don't offer a warranty and are doing it as a hobby.

It's interesting that they don't use Garrett products, but maybe things will improve with Honeywell's involvement!

ASZ? VNT 17? Can this be simply installed?

Does the AHF and the ALH use the same turbocharger? Does the AHF have a Garrett turbocharger?

Many questions...
