HI,

The new TDIs with DPFs are no longer allowed to run on biodiesel. Biodiesel has never really been a thing in the VW engineering world anyway.

To my knowledge, the reason for the ban on BD (presumably referring to biodiesel) is that the combustion processes are slightly different when using BD, and this could make it difficult to reliably meet the EURO4 emissions standard.
That's all for the political side of things.
Should BD (presumably referring to Blu-ray Disc) not pose any technical issues? Is that correct?

What about oil? Will it clog the filter? Should I absolutely avoid it, or are there no technical objections, like with the older swirl chamber and TDI engines? My 1Z engine never had any problems with oil.

Hello Martin,

Difficult question...

Since PÖL alters the combustion process in a way that is unfamiliar to the MSG, it could lead to disruptions in the regeneration process. Over time, this could result in a shorter lifespan for the DPF.

Please note that this MAY happen, but it doesn't necessarily HAVE to!

Hi Martin,

After seeing several "Pöl" exhaust systems where it seems like the exhaust fumes cause a sticky residue (a combination of "Pöl" and oil) that makes you want to stick to the end of the pipe, I think that with low-load driving, this problem occurs very quickly.

Best regards, Rainer.

Hello,

"Are there any manufacturers for ESP or PD systems that are currently approved for use with RME (Rapeseed Methyl Ester) fuel? I'm under the impression that, for example, with DC, you have to pay extra to have everything, even the fuel tank, converted to be RME-compatible. However, it seems that ESP (Electronic Stability Program) systems are not RME-compatible from the factory."
I haven't heard anything new yet about Bosch offering any solid RME solutions.

Greetings, buddy.

RME, however, is something completely different...

As Rainer already mentioned, RME (Rapeseed Methyl Ester) is a different type of fuel. RME has significantly better lubricating properties than diesel, but the methanol content can damage seals. Biodiesel, in contrast to regular diesel and RME, has a limited lubricating effect under pressure. Thinking back to 2002-2003, when diesel was desulfurized, the lubricating effect was so poor that many manufacturers experienced widespread injector and engine failures. I don't even want to think about biodiesel, which has an even worse lubricating effect.

Regarding DC, they use the CP1 CR pump in their CR engines, right? This pump comes from the factory with only metal seals; only a shaft seal and two O-rings are made of Viton in the low-pressure section, so they can withstand a lot. However, Bosch doesn't release this information, even though the lubricating effect of RME (Rapeseed Methyl Ester) is much better. In my opinion, this is the old problem with the automotive industry, the supplier industry, and the mineral oil companies, and their collaboration. Also, you can occasionally add RME to the system for cleaning, but the price advantage is no longer present when using it for regular driving.

Hello,

Thanks, that clarifies things a lot. And what about the VP37? Is it also just a matter of approval, or are there other components installed that it can't handle?
Because, as I mentioned, my understanding is that ESP manufacturers don't provide approvals, while car manufacturers do so "independently."

My question referred to Dieselmartin's first sentence, where he stated that the newest diesel vehicles are no longer allowed to run on biodiesel (which, for me, is RME).

I myself know that a "Pöl" is something else, after so many thousands of "Pöl" kilometers icon_wink.gif.
The only thing I've noticed with Pöl (biodiesel) is that, in normal diesel engines with a return fuel system (REP), the seals started to leak shortly after switching to Pöl, specifically the O-rings on the ESP (Electronic Stability Program) connected to the fuel lines. Otherwise, they all ran without problems; the W140 with the 3.5L TD even ran for a relatively long time, I mean around 100,000 km, and then had 260,000 km on the clock when it was sold. The W210 220D also received a lot of Pöl, and both were used extensively for towing heavy trailers.
Okay, but that's off-topic now, so I'll stop here.

Greetings, buddy.

m;

Hello Martin,

To my knowledge, there are problems with DPF regeneration when using RME or oil, as the late ignition temperature of the oil and, consequently, the RME, does not reliably ensure the ignition of the mixture during the exhaust stroke.

The service information document (SSP) regarding the DPF (Diesel Particulate Filter) describes this in detail. Unfortunately, I don't have it available right now, so I can only provide a more precise explanation tomorrow.

To my knowledge, an RME ban has only been in place in connection with DPF systems, and not with EURO4 standards.

Best regards, Jochen.
