Hello,

My Climatronic system is malfunctioning.

It gets warm and cold every 2 seconds.

Is this an Audi A3 8L, manufactured in 2002?

Does anyone know this problem?

In channel 1 of the Climatronic system, the numbers 15.7 and 7.1 are flashing alternately.

What should be done?

What did I do wrong?

I thought channel 1 was the error channel.

In this channel, the numbers 15.7 and 7.1 are blinking alternately.

What could that be?

"Also, you can also hear one of the flaps on the right side (probably the one on the lower right) constantly."

Climatronic codes are not a diagnostic trouble code (DTC) log.

Well, but the error channel must have some meaning...

I really wish I had never bought this Audi.
"The A3 pump nozzle system was brand new and fully equipped. It cost approximately €30,000 in 2002."

Previous damages:

A total of 7 injector pump elements were replaced.
Engine failure at 160,000 km (hole in the piston).
Turbocharger replaced at 130,000 km.
Side airbags replaced at 100,000 km.
Schon der 4. Sentence: Support pillars.
CD changer malfunction at 130,000 kilometers.
Shut-off valve at 50,000.
Armrest at 30000.
Tailgate lock at 30,000 [units/miles/kilometers - specify the unit].
Flexible pipe leaking at 80,000 kilometers (or miles).
Central locking pump at 30,000 [units/miles/km - specify the unit].
Water pump at 130,000 kilometers/miles.
Catalytic converter rusted through, 180,000 km.

And now, to top it all off, the damn Climatronic!

I would strongly advise against buying an Audi. Even though they might look nice, I'm fed up with them. The amount of money I've spent on repairs for this car would have been enough to buy a decent second car.

Either take it to an Audi dealer and have them read the error codes, or live with it. While the error codes mean something, I haven't found any explanations for them online yet.

"Bad luck can happen with any car. I've been driving my A4, which is now 10 years old, without any major problems. Of course, there are a few minor issues, but that's to be expected with its age."

It's possible to help everyone, and I understand that you've had negative experiences. I see that. However, if you provide us with more information, we would be happy to assist you.

Sure, here's the translation:

"I appreciate these internal codes of the Climatronic system, but please read the memory; there's an error code stored in there. The problem seems to be related to a faulty control unit or a malfunction in the temperature regulation area, and it might be quickly resolved if you don't get so upset."

I only have a Golf, but it has everything you could have wanted in a Golf back then. Previous defects: a vacuum hose was pinched/kinked, a brake pad came loose from its mounting plate, and the control unit for the xenon headlights was defective. The last two problems were covered by the warranty, while the hose cost €9.80.

Okay, now try to have the error code read out and then tell me exactly what it is. After that, we'll proceed!

Guys, I've got the solution!

You can see the error in channel 1 of the Climatronic system! When the display changes, multiple errors are shown:

I'm getting error codes 15.7 and 7.1.

That means:

15 = Poti.Temp flap, right side
7 = Custom-made lower leg support
7 = Right-side blow-off sensor
1 = Short circuit to ground.

The oxygen sensor reading I'm getting in channel 61 is -51°.
The sensor is located directly behind the valve.

It's possible that it's just the antenna.

I urgently need the value of a comparable Audi A3 or VW for comparison purposes.

Can someone tell me the value in channel 61?
Speed is important, I'm freezing...

How confident are you that your list is correct and applies to your model? This starts with the fact that there are no mass interruptions, and goes beyond that, as you can't simply take values from any random VW/Audi for comparison. Come on, man, you're making your life difficult. A diagnostic tool doesn't cost that much (see the shop here), and you would have been three times cheaper with your list of problems, especially because I doubt that everything you listed is actually defective/was defective.

The tables I have are definitely correct, as I received them from a colleague who works at Audi just an hour ago. He also explained to me what the codes on them mean.

The errors in the table are the same ones that are stored in the Audi diagnostic system.

Logically, it makes sense.

The Climatronic system roughly calculates the vent position based on the outside air temperature.
The Potti device detects whether the flap is moving.

The sensor monitors the temperature after the valve and adjusts the valve position accordingly.
Since he had a cascade of control loops, the valve attempted to regulate the temperature in steps.
However, because the sensor is defective and the temperature remains the same for the control unit, the Climatronic system detects a problem.
The feedback loop is closed.

The error description is never 100% clearly defined.

There are only two possibilities:

Either the motor with the built-in potentiometer or the sensor.

So, who can tell me the value in channel 61?

"No one has disputed that the errors you are reading are the same as those that are also stored through the normal self-diagnosis system. The problem is the table that you are using to translate the codes. This table varies greatly depending on the model, and there is no public documentation available about it. This means that even if your colleague works at Audi, he will not find a corresponding listing in the documentation available to dealers."

One reason why we want a complete diagnostic log is because we need to see the hardware and software status of the control unit, and you can't get that information just by pressing buttons.

I went to a friendly mechanic. So, the VAG tester showed the same errors as were stored in the Climatronic error memory.

Okay, so we have the bypass valve motor and the air intake manifold.

Does anyone know where the temperature sensor for the Mannan inlet is located?

Is there a way to clear the error memory of the Climatronic without using a VAG tester? Surely there must be some other method, right?

No, it only works with diagnostic hardware. However, even if the components start working again, the errors may not be cleared.

Okay, the Climatronic system is still not working properly. At the beginning, it blows warm air perfectly, but after a longer period of driving, the upper vents blow cold air, while the foot vents blow warm air.

The error code indicates a problem with the temperature sensor for the intake air, specifically a short circuit to ground.
Can someone tell me where this sensor is supposed to be located?

Does anyone know if the basic valve settings can be adjusted without using a tester?

Your problem is definitely not the basic settings, and it's probably not solely the temperature sensor...

Try getting a proper diagnosis or find someone who can do it. The messing around you've been doing for over a month is just unacceptable. If all your repairs start out as sloppy as this troubleshooting process, then I'm not surprised you're disappointed with the vehicle.

I find your answer a bit too general.

Furthermore, I had my car serviced at Audi and had to pay 140 euros to have the error codes read and the flaps reset.

However, as I mentioned before, this part only works properly at the beginning, but after about 35 minutes of driving, it stops working correctly. This means the air vents start blowing cold air.

"When Audi reads the error memory, the following message appears:"

Exhaust temperature sensor, manifold side, short circuit to ground.
It surely can't be that difficult to figure out where this sensor is located... even the Audi master technician didn't know.

Audi wants to install a completely new Climatronic control unit for me, even though they're not sure if it's the cause of the problem. So much for proper troubleshooting.
