Hello everyone,

I've been having a problem for a while now. And the semester break is coming up soon. Well, my search hasn't really helped. And unfortunately, Dieselmartin hasn't responded to me. I think he didn't finish the project either.
Okay, I'm running my 1Z engine (from a '96 Passat) with an engine control unit (ECU) from a '97 Golf GTI TDI with an AFN engine; part number 028 906 021 DF. Additionally, I've installed an intake manifold from a Passat (96kW). This manifold has a bypass valve that I urgently need to get working (bypass valve activation).

"Could someone possibly tell me how I can access the valve? I need a signal that remains active for about 2 seconds after the ignition is switched off. Can anyone suggest a circuit that would produce such a signal?"

Hi.

Oops, did dieselmartin overlook something icon_wink.gif?
And yes, he's getting a parking ticket on Saturday... with a Passat car around it icon_cool.gif.

Does the DF have a metal casing?
Then, approximately 5 seconds after the engine is turned off, relay 109 will click.
And that's exactly your chance:
The ignition is already set to "off," but the control unit is still running... It's the exact timing for the shut-off valve.
As long as the engine control unit (ECU) has power and "ignition off" is selected, the solenoid valve for the shut-off valve should be activated.

This should be done with _one_ relay.

Okay, that's the counterpart of the AFN to the BF in the 1Z. So, MSA15 and everything Martin wrote applies exactly to you.

Regards,
Guste.

Hi Dieselmartin,

Yes, you will get a brand new access panel with a stylish new Pasi cover around it, just like that. icon_wink.gif icon_lol.gif
Did you abandon your "Project Abstellklappe" project, or did you complete it?

Nachlforced?

I'm assuming that the 109 normally has 4 connections. 31, possibly 15? (or from the control unit), 85, and 86. Am I understanding that correctly? Consequently, pin 86 should have the exact signal that I need to activate a diverter valve activation relay. icon_lol.gif

EDIT: I just saw in Autodata that the 109 only has 3 connectors icon_confused.gif. That's a pain...

Correct me if I'm wrong icon_exclaim.gif.

"I just had another thought. Would it also work with the shut-off valve in the fuel injection pump? Could we tap into the voltage supply of the valve and connect it to a relay, and then connect the other side of the relay to terminal 15 (ignition plus)? Of course, the valve would need to be activated for long enough (until the engine stops)."

It was just a thought. I'm open to any suggestions.

Good idea icon_smile.gif.

That's not possible.

The idle control valve is essentially a valve that allows the engine to run, and in TDI engines, it's an unnecessary relic.

It only needs power for the duration of the "ignition on" phase. However, you need power for a certain period *after* "ignition off," and only then.
This is what's called "latency," and the MSA15 (metal enclosure) already has less of it compared to the MSA12 (plastic enclosure) from the factory.

So, you're basically getting everything for free...

Okay, I think I understand everything so far. Then, one wire connects to this shut-off valve, and the other connects somewhere to relay 109. If someone knows which terminal of 109 I need to connect to, it will save me a lot of searching. icon_wink.gif

For the diverter valve, take the ground connection from something that has ground when "ignition is off" and nothing else.

The positive voltage comes from output R109, see the circuit diagram (so it's one of the 80s models, I don't know which one).
