Preheat Light Not On? Troubleshooting Guide.

I converted my Golf 3 TDI 1Z to an AFN engine, including installing Climatronic. Everything is wired up, but when I turn the ignition on, the glow plug light doesn't come on, and the engine cranks but doesn't start. I replaced the immobilizer from the donor vehicle, including the ignition cylinder and the transponder in the key. What else could be the problem?

Since the engine control unit (ECU) has a fault memory, I would check it to see if there are any stored error codes. Otherwise, I would go through the few available data blocks and check the values for plausibility.

As long as it doesn't start at all, it's not the WFS.
It sounds more like the MSTG isn't being supplied with power or isn't starting up because someone...
someone tampered with the PROMs, because the system light should also come on when the WFS is active.

Diagnosis can still be helpful. Either access is not possible, or...
