Besides the still unresolved engine problem (see other thread), another issue is bothering me: I have the impression that my ESP intervenes earlier in left turns than in right turns (even quite early, it seems). Just now, I noticed while looking at my 3pmdev CarPC that when the steering wheel is in the neutral position (and the vehicle is driving straight), a steering angle of -4.8 degrees is displayed. Could this be causing the problem? Does anyone know if and how this can be corrected?

And another question: Does anyone reading this thread happen to know if the brake light illuminates during an ESP intervention? Just out of curiosity...

Thank you in advance!

You can find the "straight running" setting by searching.

Sure, if your car doesn't know what "straight ahead" is, then the curves will also appear different.

The brake lights (I suspect) are not working, because mine also turn off, even though the car is being held by the Auto-Hold system. (which I think is stupid, because I'm standing at the traffic light or at the end of a traffic jam with completely blocked wheels, and nobody sees it icon_sad.gif.

The auto-hold system even engages and actively prevents him from rolling backward by about 1 meter using the ESP pump.

Really? I have to try that right away to see if it works the same way for me.
For me, this will probably be a bit more complicated due to GDPR.
Let's see if he does that with me in "N" mode.
The brake lights also turn off when the active headrest is engaged.

I only realized it a few days ago, when I consciously let it roll backward.

I had already noticed that when I was going very, very slowly in reverse (probably just coasting), the automatic emergency braking system would repeatedly engage.

At a traffic light, he probably starts too late, because the people in the back are usually closer than the designated area for motorcycles, which is what the AH (driver's license) allows.

The test Passat with DSG was even caught speeding forward by the traffic control system.

You can clearly feel the pulsating sensation from the pump when the ESP engages the brakes.

Have you checked the tires?

Different rolling circumferences caused by varying tire profiles or air pressures, as well as things like spacer plates or rims with extremely different offset values, can significantly disrupt the ESP (Electronic Stability Program). Personally, I don't think that a difference of 4.8 degrees will make much of a difference in this regard. There's always a certain tolerance involved, and most roads have a slight slope, which requires a bit of counter-steering.

I also experienced the same problem with the ESP (Electronic Stability Program) intervening too early in my Cupra.

Solution: Implement a workaround (the rule threshold is increased).

Regarding the brake light when ESP is active:

Absolutely not. The ESP intervention is not a braking mechanism, but rather a driving dynamics control system.

The statement about the ESP activity is correct, but that is not a reason for the brake lights to turn on or off.

Because the auto-hold function *is* a form of braking, but it doesn't activate the brake lights.

If my Passat's ABS activates for 2 seconds or if it's braking with more than 0.77 g, it turns on the hazard lights... which is actually not a reason to do so, "just because I'm braking" icon_wink.gif.

Does he actually turn on the brake lights when I "catch" him using the P switch...? I'll check that.

Autohold is not a braking system, as your 'handbrake' is a parking brake. It is not intended to slow down your vehicle, but rather, as the name suggests, to hold it in place.

The hazard lights are a safety feature, not a mandatory requirement. Anyone braking with 0.77g should have a legitimate reason for being in front of the vehicle they're following.
The same applies to the adaptive brake lights.
In my opinion, it is very effective because it allows the following traffic to be warned of potential dangers more quickly.

"My" auto-hold feature also actively brakes the vehicle actively.

Besides the well-known "pressure in the system holding", when I bring it to a standstill with my foot, the ESP pump is activated if it rolls backward on its own. After about 1 meter, it stops, and the vehicle automatically comes to a halt.
So, an active intervention in the vehicle's movement.

The handbrake button activates the brake lights during an "emergency braking maneuver" (pressing the button while driving above 7 km/h).

I wouldn't consider avoiding rolling backward on your own as vehicle movement. Rather, it's a comfort feature that doesn't require any information for the person behind.

How strong is your braking at 7 km/h when using the 'P' button?

According to SSP 6 or 7 m/s², the braking force is applied and controlled to all four wheels via ESP/ABS, meaning it is not simply applied indiscriminately.
The electric motors on the rear axle will then shut off if the speed is below 7 km/h.

If you let go of the "P", it immediately stops.
Once it's fully charged, it doesn't automatically activate the electric motors like it usually does when starting. You have to manually activate them again using the "P" button.

The entire maneuver puts a lot of stress on the seatbelt and also makes the tires work quite hard.
I once braked from about 30 km/h to a complete stop using winter tires. Afterwards, I felt bad about what I had done to the tires.

Well, I drive forward towards the traffic light (slightly uphill road). After reaching the turning point, I roll backward towards the car behind me. Then, the auto-hold system engages, stopping the car - just before my rear bumper gets close to the front grill of the car behind me... Maybe he wants to know that he doesn't have to have a heart attack right now. icon_wink.gif

Perhaps we can achieve this by coding it to use the US version, and then the brake lights will illuminate.
It's important to be aware of these things. For example, a cruise control system won't allow you to stand up, and you can't cook coffee in the back of the camper.

I've now tested the auto-hold feature on my DSG.
I was unable to trigger the automatic braking function while reversing. icon_confused.gif

Hi.

Today, I noticed that my auto-hold feature is even engaging the car in forward motion.

Approach the traffic light, slow down, but don't come to a complete stop yet... BRRRRT, the ESP kicks in.

Remarkable, because with "reverse capture," there was previously a turning point where the car "stopped," but with "forward capture," there wasn't.

Interesting... I wasn't able to transfer the auto-hold feature from your 3C to mine.

Sure, Maxx.

Perhaps they thought, "The C3 is more suitable for older models that can't even manage to stop this thing on their own; we'll have to provide a lot of assistance."

For that, you can lower the mirrors icon_wink.gif.
