Seized Brake Discs: Causes & Solutions

This morning I was planning to quickly replace the brake discs on my Golf IV (1998, 1.6L, 74 kW gasoline engine).
My wife is changing jobs.

Now the discs are completely rotten and stuck to the hub!

Does anyone have a tip on the easiest way to remove them?

I want to use a small angle grinder now and cut a slot into the brake disc hub.
and then break it open with a chisel.

I am grateful for any advice.

Take some rust remover and a medium-sized hammer, and gently tap the brake disc from the back (rear) side of the screw. The goal is to slightly loosen it so that it comes away from the hub. As you do this, the very soft screw will stretch slightly and lose its tension at the countersunk head. If everything goes well, you should then be able to easily unscrew it without much effort.

I think he's having trouble getting the pot off the spindle.
Usually, firm taps on the edges of the caliper in the direction of the wheel bolts help. I also tried everything with Bosch rotors (800 meters altitude with a lot of snow and salt) after 3 winters: rust remover, and finally, a 500g hammer. On the poorly ventilated 283mm brake disc, you could see, after a while, indentations about 1cm deep around the outer diameter, like those made by rats. In that case, you just tap the rotor off; the caliper doesn't budge. A few firm taps with a 250g hammer on the caliper brought very quick success.

Sorry, I misread that . But he should be careful not to damage the wheel bearings in the process. I usually tap them out from the back of the hub. Usually, they come loose after at most three hammer blows.

Using a small hammer on the area where the rim sits, the vibrations will loosen the rust, and it will simply flake off.

I recently experienced the same problem. I tried to remove them with a 5kg hammer, but when a friend hit them with a smaller hammer about 5-8 times, they came loose.
