Hi, I was on the Supersprint website today (www.supersprint.com), and they have an exhaust component for my engine (AJM) that mounts directly to the turbo and replaces the catalytic converter. With the included end pipe, it would increase the power from 115 hp to 147 hp and the torque to 342 Nm!
I can't really believe that, has anyone of you installed these parts? Or can someone confirm that they provide so much power? Or am I just unable to read? icon_rolleyes.gif

Best regards,
Stefan

Hi,

The system brings three things:

- give the seller money.
- noise pollution affecting your environment.
- buying a car without an ABE (due to catalytic converter replacement).

And most likely, LESS power. In conjunction with other tuning modifications (increasing fuel injection and turbo boost), it might potentially offer a small improvement, but certainly not more than 3 horsepower, if it's even measurable.

In the Polo forum, they (though with naturally aspirated engines, where the effects are stronger than with turbos) conducted some tests and found that for UNTUNED engines, the stock exhaust system is best. In most cases, aftermarket exhaust systems actually reduce performance (and are terribly loud).

The significant increase in activity from this offer clearly demonstrates that it is highly unprofessional.

Best regards,

Jan.

Hi,
I own a Golf IV TDI with 100 horsepower (chiptuned to 130) without a catalytic converter, and I have to say it makes a noticeable difference. The car feels much more responsive than before, and I can keep up with a 150 horsepower TDI up to 120 mph!
However, I also have to say something. The CAR SMELLS LIKE a TRUCK FROM POLAND icon_redface.gif!!!

Hi,

@ Mr. X:

'With the VE-TDi engines, tinkering with the exhaust system didn't achieve much (at least not unless other modifications were also made). The PD engines likely behave similarly in principle (okay, perhaps a slightly better airflow, which could potentially increase air mass - something that can influence the injection quantity in PD engines -), resulting in roughly the same power gain as promised by PD (so-called 'trick') tuning boxes. I suspect that the specification from SuperSprint refers to what is achievable with a custom-tuned chip used in conjunction with their exhaust system (with a standard exhaust, it would probably be a few horsepower less).'Otherwise: Is the documentation clear? icon_cool.gif

@GOLFTDI:

I already pushed my 'Pampersbomber' (a nickname for the car) down the track with approximately 125 horsepower (calculated based on the assumption that the 90 horsepower series is correct; 8.4 seconds vs. 6 seconds) without blowing out the catalytic converter. It's just fun to chase after PD Passats. icon_twisted.gif
It's hard to say whether it smelled different than usual, but at least the subsequent traffic wasn't visually obstructed. Did you install the catalytic converter replacement before or after installing the chip?

Best regards, Rudi.

I removed the catalytic converter. However, the engine control unit doesn't detect whether a catalytic converter is present or not, because there's no lambda sensor. Without the catalytic converter, the turbocharger doesn't get as hot, and the efficiency increases. The catalytic converter really makes a difference; I'm 100% sure of that, because with the catalytic converter, my 150 TDI couldn't even come close to matching its performance. Without it, the engine revs more freely. However, there's no noticeable increase in torque, and the torque curve isn't as pronounced as it used to be without the catalytic converter.
