Force = Mass x Acceleration
In the Asu, the engine revs up very quickly within seconds, which you wouldn't be able to do, for example, in 3rd or 5th gear -> due to the inertia of the camshaft, ESP, and intermediate shaft, the timing belt is heavily stressed during acceleration (->due to forces).
Of course, high speeds are not ideal either... but in this case, only the friction between the shafts needs to be overcome, because the change in speed (=acceleration) is then not so high or 0 (maximum speed).
I cannot tell you exactly what the difference in power consumption is between the two cases.
At least, tuning increases acceleration values in general!!!!!

I believe you can still go on sick leave without any worries. I replace the timing belt when it has more than 60,000 km on it.
