Hello everyone,
"Since I'm planning to replace the overdue timing belt on my AFN soon (I already have the kit and special tools), I need to buy a torque wrench that's reliable and accurate to the specified torque values. I'm primarily going to use it for the tensioner, camshaft sprocket, and pulley, but I'm sure I'll find many other uses for it later. So far, I've been using a torque wrench from a hardware store that costs €19.95 and has a range of 30-210 Nm, but I don't feel comfortable using it for the timing belt."
I'm currently considering torque wrenches from the Gedore group and also some from Hazet (which are around €90). I'm now wondering whether I should go for the 20-200Nm model or the 20-100Nm model. The manufacturers generally guarantee a tolerance of, for example, 4% on the displayed scale value. Therefore, the 20-100Nm model seems almost unnecessary – or am I missing something?
So, I have two options: either a 20-200Nm torque wrench for general use, or a 20-100Nm torque wrench, and then a standard socket wrench from the hardware store for heavier tasks.
Perhaps someone has experience in this area.
Regards,
Strange.

Hello,
A Gedore/Hazett wrench for almost everything, and possibly a smaller, shorter one for up to 50 Nm, 3/8 inch.
With adapter for 1/2 inch. For drywall and small jobs.
"Good tools last a lifetime, can be calibrated, and spare parts are available even years later."
I only use my old, cheap wrench for the wheel bolts anymore. Gruß, der Teileklaus

I have the entire Proxxon family of products.
1/4" 5-30 Nm
3/8" 20-100 Nm
1/2" drive, 40-200 Nm torque range.
So far, very satisfied.

Possibly, the tolerance applies to the maximum scale value? In other words, a tolerance of 4 Nm for a torque wrench with a range of 100 Nm, and 8 Nm for a torque wrench with a range of 200 Nm.
It would then be specified, for example, with a value of 4% FS (full scale). Golf 7 GTI

Tolerance for the read value.
The trigger pull (or activation) is inaccurate due to the spring tension, and this relationship is linear.
So, at 200 Nm, it's 4%, and at 100 Nm, it's also 4%. Gruß, der Teileklaus

It's now a Gedore torque wrench with a range of 10-100Nm (40cm, 1/2"). If needed, I'll get a second one for higher torque values later. For now, it should cover everything where precision is important (e.g., glow plugs to head gasket). For the suspension and wheels, the cheaper one will have to do for now.
