Hello, I have a Golf 4, 1.6-liter model from 2002 with the AZD engine.
The symptoms are: loss of power, fluctuating RPM (ranging between 1600 and 1800 RPM), and the engine stutters when accelerating until it dies. The high RPM is likely due to cleaning the throttle body, and it should ideally readjust itself automatically.
The error codes are:
16786 - Exhaust gas recirculation system: Flow rate too high.
p0402 - 35 - 00
17604 - Bank 1 - Sensor 1; Heating circuit: electrical fault.
p1196 - 35 - 10 - - - Sporadically
17588 - Linear Lambda Probe / Pump Current: Short circuit to positive.
p1180 - 35 - 10 - - - Sporadic
Error 17588 is supposed to be fixed with a software update for the MSG.
Error code 16786 is likely a known issue with the 1.6-liter engine, and it might be resolved by cleaning the carbon deposits.
The AGR valve should be fixed, or at the latest, after being replaced.
Error code 17604 is supposedly caused by the EGR valve.
How can a carbonized EGR valve cause an electrical fault in the circuit? Could it be due to carbon buildup on the oxygen sensor?
Why do all three errors occur simultaneously? Error 16786 and error 17604 seem unrelated to error 17588.
Do you perhaps have a better rhyme for that?
Thank you in advance. Best regards, Jan
