The game repeated after each break (meaning the three blocks had to be re-selected).

I had a similar problem with my Lenovo X60s running version 704.1. I was able to identify it as a software issue related to the installed "disk airbag" APS program. This program queries a shock sensor installed on the motherboard and parks the drive head in case of strong vibrations or movements, supposedly to protect the data on the disk if the device is dropped. While you can reduce the sensitivity through software and enable the option to ignore periodic vibrations for car/train operation, even then, communication with the MSG would break down after about 15-20 minutes (!), especially during full acceleration.
