Hello everyone!

Here's a quick update on my renovation!

I've now wired everything up as much as possible and re-programmed the instrument cluster to the extent that I could.

Initially, I thought I wouldn't need a CAN connection between the MSG (Modular Signaling Device) and the instrument cluster, as my vehicle didn't have it before. However, I quickly realized that the WFS (Windshield Washer Fluid Sensor) also sends its signal to the MSG via this connection, so I installed those wires this morning.

If I try to start the engine now, it will briefly run and then shut off again.
The WFS (Wind Field Sensor) in the combination instrument is deactivated.

However, the MSG is still reporting an error, indicating that it is not receiving signals from the ABS control unit data bus and the transmission control unit data bus.

Unfortunately, I don't know what conditions must be met for MSG to not be blocked.

Okay, I'll provide the error messages now. I hope someone can clarify the situation.

First read after I connected everything:

The condition is: a successful adaptation between WFS and MSG.

As long as that condition isn't met, this will keep happening as a consequence.

Well, that's certainly a reliable statement!

The wiring is not entirely clear yet.
old AI:
Plug is green.
Pin 2 = Transponder 1.
Pin 4 = WFS
Pin 5 = W line.

Plug, blue.
Pin25 = K line.

new AI:
Plug is green.
Pin 2 = Transponder.
Pin 5 = W line.
Pin 28 = K line.

I connected pin 2 to pin 2, pin 5 to pin 5, and the pin 25 (blue connector) of the old instrument cluster to pin 28 (green connector) of the new instrument cluster.
Pin 4 = The WFS (Water Flow Sensor) of the old strand was not used. Is this okay so far?

The WFS light in the combination instrument turns off and remains off.
So, everything should be okay with the instrument cluster, right?

Does this mean that the information will not be transferred to my MSG device?

Does this then mean that the information will not be displayed on my MSG device?
If it says above
Quote:
"The WFS in the combination instrument is deactivated,"
then I have to give up here due to a lack of detailed knowledge, but I suspect that with a "dead WFS-KI," you will never get the MSG to work...

What is a "Tote-WFS-KI"?

The question is, what exactly is dead here? If that's what you mean!

Well, it's this:

WFS is disabled = Lamp in the control panel turns off = WFS is not active.

However, it seems that this only applies to the KI system and not to the MSG system!

However, I meant that this seems to be only the case in the AI, and not in the MSG!
Ah, I thought the WFS had been illegally removed.
If that's not the case, then the AI and MSG systems must simply be properly connected, compatible with the WFS generation, and trained to work together – and that's where I have to bow out due to a lack of detailed knowledge.

Since this message disappeared after the CAN bus was initialized, the MSG and KI (which is the WFS) can now apparently communicate with each other and seem to understand each other (I suspect they are using compatible hardware versions).

So, all that's left to do is to train the WFS to work with the MSG. Please search for information in the technical articles. There's an external link on Ross-Tech (or search directly there) that describes how to do this, depending on the WFS generation.

Regards,
Guste.

PS: Why did you even bother to make any changes? I can't read anything about that in this thread.

I started the conversion because I had a 1.9L TDI engine with a rotary injection pump, and then suddenly, one of the cylinders lost compression. After a more thorough inspection, I discovered that a valve had broken off and was lying in the combustion chamber.
Since I was confident in my ability to upgrade to a slightly more modern engine generation, I started this conversion project.
However, I would advise everyone to never start something like that, because it's a bottomless pit.

I also suspect that, assuming the wiring is correct and the immobilizer is also deactivated in the instrument cluster, the problem likely stems from a communication issue between the instrument cluster and the engine control unit.

Is this the right way?

There's nothing to disable in the combination instrument. You could install an American speedometer (which, depending on the year, may not have any warning lights), and the same thing would happen. You can expand it, but the same thing will happen.

That's exactly right. The approval is coming from MSG. Regardless of which speedometer is installed (purely American models excluded icon_lol.gif).

WFS is disabled = Lamp in the dashboard turns off = WFS is not active

That simply means that the keys are recognized as correct. icon_wink.gif
