Ash mass/EOL ash volume and maximum values for ash mass/ash volume (DPF ash mass limits)

Common VAG TDIs:
Using VCDS -> Select "Adaptation/Adjustment", choose channel 12 or 81 or the dropdown. See:

A012,6,After replacing the particulate filter, an ash removal procedure must be performed and the value
A012.7, in this adjustment channel, must be set back to "0" (zero).
A012,8,
A012,9,After replacing the engine control unit, the ash content value from the old engine control unit must be transferred.
A012,10,If this is not possible, calculate the value as follows (obtain the average consumption from the
A012,11,Combination instrument or, if applicable, an approximate value of 7 l):
A012,12,Ash Mass = Running Distance (km) * Average Consumption (liters) / 100 * Ash Coefficient (0.0046 g / liter)

When replacing the DPF with a new part, it should be set to a new ash mass of 0g (or a new ash volume of 0ml) using VCDS. When cleaning the existing DPF, a value of 4-10g (out of a maximum mass of 60g) may be appropriate, depending on the success of the cleaning process.
Background: If 0g is set and there are actually 10g of ash in the filter, the engine control unit will detect an unexpectedly high exhaust backpressure and will therefore initiate regeneration more frequently.

DO NOT ADJUST ANYTHING WITHOUT A NEW OR MECHANICALLY CLEANED DPF

VW LT3:
Using VCDS -> Select "Adaptation/Adjustment", Channel 16.
- Increase engine speed to over 1300rpm (lightly press the accelerator)
- Set the "Adaptation Channel 16" in the Engine Control Unit (ECU) to '1'.

Instructions:
- Newer engines use the oil pan volume ("Particulate filter oil pan volume" in the extended measurement blocks) as a measure of the level. The oil pan volume is in liters (or (in milliliters) instead of being measured in grams. The adjustment function then means, for example, "IDE00275-Initialization of the particle filter" with the input of a value in thousand-km.
- Depending on the tax device, adjustments may only be possible after login (access permission). Extract the value from the tooltip in VCDS above the input field, or ask if it is empty.

Maximum ash mass or maximum ash volume:
- Maximum 60g ash mass for 1.9 PD-TDI and 2.0 PD-TDI engines without DPF additives
- Maximum 150g of ash mass for the 2.0 PD-TDI with additive system
- Maximum 175ml ash volume or maximum 70g (80g in some engines, e.g.) CUNA) Ash mass in 1.6/2.0 CR-TDI engines
- Maximum 225ml ash volume or 110g oil ash mass for the 2.0 CR-TDI in the T6
- 95g for 2.5 PD-TDI engines
- 460ml for 2.7/3.0 CR-TDI engines with 3-character engine code
- 370ml for 3.0 CR-TDI engines with 4-digit engine codes

"Older" engine control units do not have maximum values for ash content in the engine control unit that can be read out via diagnostics. For tax devices that are accessible via UDS, there is often a corresponding "measurement value" available.

If the ash mass or ash volume exceeds these values, you must verschandeln or replace the DPF. If the maximum value for the oil ash is unclear, it may be worthwhile to look for it in the extended measurement values of the engine control unit. My 110kW T6, for example, shows a limit of 110g of oil ash mass.

Note: On some engine control units, it may be necessary to enter a suitable WSC (Vehicle Speed Code) from the car scan into the VCDS program settings beforehand.
