Hello!
I'm planning to replace the connecting rod bearings on my Audi A4 at around 190,000 km.
Besides the fact that the contact person in the spare parts department couldn't tell me...
whether he can order sputter bearings ('they are all the same, from the naturally aspirated diesel to the turbo').
He wanted to know what quantity of something I would like to order.
He offered me extra amounts of 0.25, 0.50, and 0.75.
I didn't know that you could use an oversized bearing in a Pleullager.
Can anyone help me figure out what amount of extra material I should order, and how to calculate it?
How do I determine the necessary excess?
Best regards.
peter
PS:
Which manufacturer does VW source these bearings from?

He wanted to know from me what amount of extra | he should provide.
The AFN only receives the sputter targets with the part numbers 028 105 701 H (4 pieces).
The following parts are the same as those used in other diesel engines (AAZ, 1Z, etc.), specifically the 028 105 701 J injectors (also 4 pieces).
The 8 connecting rod bolts also need to be replaced; the part number is 028 105 425 C.
All information is provided without guarantee and comes from a 1997 Golf with engine code AFN. Do you have a 10-point socket?

I didn't know that you could install an excess amount of material in a Plummer block. |
You can't, at most, use undersized ones . But only if the connecting rod bearing journal has been re-machined accordingly. If that's not the case for you, you need the standard ones.

Normally, you shouldn't use it at all. "Overmass" is typically only used with ground waves. You should install what's already there – that's the safest approach.
"In this case, I would order the bearings from VW. Most of the time, they use standard sizes. Sometimes, certain bearings might be oversized from the factory --> but that's not the usual case."
That's why you should draw everything, so that nothing gets confused.
Okay, so the process is: disassemble, check what's inside, order new parts, install them, and then it's done. 3B5 AJM

...at VW, you can find these parts loose and scratched in a bag. It's better to get properly sealed Mahle or KS parts from a reconditioner, which are often even cheaper.
There are two types of screws: one with two ridges for centering, and another with centering achieved through pins in the clamped surfaces.

Why do you want to change it? I've driven my Ibiza for 391,782 km and haven't had any problems with it.
In this case, he is probably going to be a victim of the environmental subsidy .

Uli, thank you very much for the part numbers!
Yes, I have a 10-point socket, and my connecting rod bearing journals were not...
ground -> therefore standard bearing.
Why do you want to change it?
'It has tuning modifications, and I also drive the car at high speeds on the highway quite often.'
and I want to keep it (even if it eventually becomes a second car) for a very long time.
'It should be possible to drive it. Investing around €120 in replacement parts would be a good idea.'
It has also happened twice that he drove over 15,000 km with the same oil.
Furthermore, it is often said that the car can run more smoothly again afterwards.
best regards.
Peter.

can drive. |
Then pray that the pistons last as long.
Nevertheless, new connecting rod bearings wouldn't be a bad idea given the mileage. 3B5 AJM

Thank you, thank you... thank you. Finally, someone who supports me .
Aber, ... wie meinst du, dass die Kolben auch noch so lange halten ? Wear out.
'Also auch das? I thought it was just the piston rings that needed to be replaced after...'
Compression problem at 120,000 km, including replacement of the cylinder head gasket.
Best regards.

Tuning + full throttle + high RPM = increased thermal load = pistons experience higher edge temperatures due to prolonged combustion (with bad tuning), but not as much with good tuning.

In my opinion, this is a natural wear and tear issue with TDI engines, with some experiencing it sooner and others later. 3B5 AJM
