Hello everyone,
Meanwhile, some time has passed, and it doesn't currently look like the absurdity of environmental zones, despite their proven ineffectiveness, will be reversed.
Therefore: Has anyone gained any new practical experience with newer (i.e., officially approved aftermarket) DPFs, especially regarding their actual impact on fuel consumption?
Unfortunately, in Berlin, there seems to be no way to avoid them, so I'm once again thinking about it...
"However, I had previously assumed that you would receive a subsidy of 330 euros if you had the cork installed by December 31, 2009. However, I also came across the wording "up to 330" and the claim that this subsidy would be gradually reduced within 2009. Does anyone know more about this? Online, I always only find information about the 330 euros subsidy until December 31, 2009."
Best regards,

Hi,
Okay, exactly. But I still don't believe in this crazy idea... because they postponed the "red alert" system, arguing that it would affect too many people. With "yellow," it would affect even more, but they won't realize that until mid-2009.
Therefore, I want to find out what is actually true about the claim that you can only receive the full 330 euros in 2008. If that's nonsense and you really do receive the full 330 euros until the end of 2009, then I will wait at least until October 2009 before increasing my consumption and the associated environmental pollution.
Edit: I noticed that feinstaubplakette.de listed two filters for HSN/TSN 7593/47 about a year ago, but now it only shows one, which supposedly belongs to Mangold. However, I can't find it on the Mangold website... it's a bit strange.

Hi,
Nachtrag: Bei Oberland Mangold ist das Teil noch im Lieferprogramm (PDF), wird aber nicht mit der Suche gefunden. Extremely strange.

Hello,
After searching the internet for a while, a suspicion has just occurred to me that is so incredible that it can't possibly be true. However, it would explain what I heard today (from a workshop, incidentally).
The following information can be found:
- DPF (Diesel Particulate Filter) installations completed by December 31, 2009, will be subsidized with a tax credit of 330 euros.
- Diesel particulate filter (DPF) installations completed by December 31, 2009, will be eligible for tax benefits of up to 330 euros.
- The subsidy will be offset against taxes, up to a maximum of 330 euros.
- The funding ends on December 31, 2009.
Is it actually understood that, from the moment of installation, no taxes are paid until either €330 is reached or December 31, 2009?
It would be fitting for our politicians, but on the other hand, many websites and "official" information sources would simply spread nonsense.
Does anyone know what's going on?
For a 1.9-liter engine, with a fuel consumption of 15.44 + 1.20 = 16.64 liters per 100 kilometers, the "break-even point" would be reached around December 15th.
Best regards,

Okay, so I received a Twin Tec part from the parts supplier free of charge and without any problems after the Bosal catalytic converter was installed. The problem is that the Twin Tec comes after the catalytic converter, which means the original catalytic converter had to be reinstalled. However, it "mustn't" be older than 90,000 km or 5 years, otherwise the TÜV inspector will be unhappy. Well, mine didn't meet either of those conditions. I installed it anyway, and after some convincing, everyone involved came to the conclusion that the whole thing doesn't really offer any real benefits, and they were okay with it.
If you have it installed by a workshop, it shouldn't be a problem at all.
"I haven't paid any taxes on the installation. This will be credited to your account from the effective date, and you won't have to pay those taxes again until you've used up the €330. However, you only need to factor in €15.44, because you will also be subject to the "lower" taxes after the effective date. So, if you decide to do this, you need to act quickly."

Hi,

This credit will be applied to your account starting from the specified date, and it will only be used up once you have consumed the 330€. However, you only need to factor in 15.44€, because you will also be subject to the "lower" taxes after the specified date.
|
You're right, that would indeed extend the period. However, the question remains whether it's as you described, or whether, regardless of how much of the €330 has been "used," taxes need to be paid again from January 1, 2010 (in which case, the filter would need to be installed before November 20, 2008, to fully utilize the €330).
Quote: |
So, if you decide to do that, you need to act quickly.
|
Hmm... well, that's only true if taxes for installed equipment purchased before December 31, 2009, are not due until that date. Otherwise, you're only saving 1.20, which is likely offset by the increased consumption to some extent.
The filter that is listed/was listed for the ASV in the 6K is a replacement system, meaning it replaces the catalytic converter. So, the problem you were having wouldn't be directly addressed by that filter.
Best regards,

Okay, the wording regarding the funding period is vague, and I agree with you on that. I registered for the "Deutschlandstipendium" (DPf) early on, and I can still benefit from the incredible savings of 19 * 1.20€ for a while.
Increased consumption: I haven't been able to detect any increased fuel consumption, either with the Bosal or now with the TwinTec, and I haven't noticed any loss of performance. If you look closely at these devices, you'll also see that it's possible to see through them when viewed directly from above.
They will certainly contribute to a minimal increase in fuel consumption, but based on my driving habits and the potential inaccuracies in my own measurements, I haven't noticed any negative effects.
Retrofitting only makes sense if you intend to continue driving the car in Berlin with the modifications. I only did it once with a Bosal system because, after calculating everything, the very low purchase price and the avoidance of additional taxes meant it could potentially break even in the long run.

That's perfectly clear. That's why the original plan was to do it just before the deadline, or to rely on the hope that the regulation, which was supposed to change to "only green from January 1, 2010," would be overturned.
My concern now is actually the interpretation of the funding period, because if I have to do it, I also want to take the 330 euros.
"By the way, I called Seat earlier. They have an "original" DPF for the ASV Ibiza for 635 euros plus VAT, and they said that, based on their experience, it can save up to 0.5 liters of fuel. They knew nothing about a supposed reduction in fuel consumption and, on the contrary, advised against retrofitting it too late, because they believe that the savings of 19 * 1.2 euros do not outweigh the increased fuel consumption."
That at least suggests that the Seat filters (whoever makes them) let less through than your filter...

"I can't detect any significant increase in fuel consumption. The car still consumes approximately 5.1 liters per tank, depending on the driving style, with the potential for even less, but then it's no longer really about driving. On average, I'm getting 5.5 liters, and that's also what I was getting before the filter (all with my driving style...)."
For environmental reasons, I certainly didn't do that either.

I have an aftermarket catalytic converter for the ALH engine. I couldn't determine the manufacturer, as the approval number I compared was different from all the other ones on the market, and it wasn't the same as the VAG number.
The Oxi-Kat was replaced by this part.
Initially, I felt like the car was slower to accelerate.
It seems to have subsided again, based on how I feel today.
Perhaps there will be a warm-up period?
Or, if such a thing even exists for that engine, has the "learning curve" of the engine control unit been reset?
Or is it just habit?
There was definitely no increase in consumption; in fact, I used less during the summer. --------------------------------------------

Even though it's off-topic: A new catalytic converter, just like a new DPF, has the lowest possible exhaust backpressure when it's new and not clogged with soot. Its performance in this regard is more likely to deteriorate over time rather than improve.
It is more likely that the driver will get used to subjectively worse acceleration than that the engine or its control system will adapt. In any case, the daily use of a motor vehicle carries the risk of not noticing gradual changes at all. Often, the "aha" moment comes when you have the opportunity to compare it with a different but identical vehicle with the same engine. Suddenly, the engine performs better, the brakes bite more, and the steering is suddenly much lighter.
Back to the topic: Two highway trips, without speeding but consistently at 120-140 km/h, have revitalized my engine, including the open DPF. Compared to a short maximum speed test on the first trip to Münster, 1500 km later, with the same tires, I was able to achieve almost 10 km/h (according to GPS measurements) more maximum speed on the same stretch of road, in the same direction. This is certainly not representative; a proper test would require a dynamometer run before and after 1500 km of almost exclusively highway driving. But nobody pays for my hobby!
Meanwhile, my 206 is even making a kind of exhaust rumble when idling, which I've never heard before. To me, this is a sign that the exhaust system, including the DPF, has been cleaned. My rear silencer now has rainbow colors. And my chrome exhaust tip has also changed color.
Ultimately, my open DPF system likely has more of a placebo effect, and wouldn't necessarily have been required due to Euro 4 regulations. However, the lack of an additive injection system, etc., also eliminates potential sources of error that could force me to drive aggressively or require frequent visits to a workshop.
Despite this, the amount of soot seems to be below average. In any case, the visible soot deposits on the inside of the exhaust pipe are extremely low and hardly higher than that of the 1.4-liter gasoline engine used for comparison, which also produces a somewhat velvety soot deposit in the exhaust pipe. Hello everyone!
When I started looking for a replacement for my catalytic converter, which had 250,000 km on it and was completely worn out, I eventually ended up with the HJS DPF. Unlike the Twintech solution (just the name says it all!), the HJS catalytic converter and DPF are integrated into a single housing, so a new catalytic converter is already included in the price. The DPF has now been in use for 30,000 km, and I am very satisfied. There is no loss of power, no increase in fuel consumption, and believe me, I am very meticulous about that. I can still achieve the old fuel consumption figures on my way to work. And contrary to what some might say, it does make a difference: About 2 years ago, the TÜV inspector had to run the engine up to the rev limiter about 13 times before the emission values were finally correct. This time, it only took 4 or 5 attempts, and the emission values are well below the maximum. However, I don't know if our environment is benefiting from this.
@hutfahrer: "Gassifahren," no word better describes the current DPF technology, brilliant!

Yes, me too!
However, I didn't express myself clearly: I had a DPF retrofitted. Specifically, it's a solution that replaces the original oxygen sensor catalytic converter, but also includes a particulate filter. My previous statements therefore refer to a DPF retrofit that comes from Volkswagen. --------------------------------------------
