Hey, I'm just starting a T3 bus conversion with an AHF engine from an Audi A3, year 98. Can I use the ECU from the Audi, or will there be problems with the CAN bus? Is it possible to have that programmed out? And does anyone know anything about the WFS? I heard that one from a Lupo might fit; the original is in the combination instrument panel, and I don't want to install that. icon_wink.gif Oh yeah, the ECU has two connectors on it. It would be great if someone could help with this. Otherwise, I'll use the entire system from an older Golf with the 68-pin ECU, but I'm not 100% sure if that will work with the fuel pump. } My phone number is 01702305097 or you can email me.

A '98 model does not have a motor CAN-bus. The WFS (likely referring to a specific system or component) is integrated into the control unit. To operate it, you need the combination instrument and the corresponding keys. Also, a Lupo has a WFS, or are you referring to something else specifically? icon_cool.gif icon_wink.gif

I'm not exactly sure about the build year. I mean, the WFS (window folding system) from the Lupo should be a separate unit, like the old one that connected to the 68-pin connector, but it won't work with the new connector because they aren't compatible. That's why the Lupo's WFS shouldn't be integrated into the main unit, but rather be a separate component. It also needs to be able to communicate with the new control unit. The new control unit definitely needs to have a bus system. There are two green wires and two orange wires that are twisted together; I'll provide the numbers later.

The control unit is compatible with an AHF (Anti-Hijack System). Install the speedometer and reading coil along with it. It's a good alternative, especially for theft prevention. An external box would also be possible, but that would also require a reading coil and matching keys. icon_wink.gif

Okay, I understand the key and reading coil thing. I've converted five VW buses before, but using the older system – the engine control unit with the 68-pin connector and the external WFS reading coil and key, all as it should be. But have you ever seen a combination from an Audi in a bus? It looks so ridiculous! That's why I'm asking again: does the external box for the new engine control unit exist?

but have you ever seen an Audi station wagon on a bus? It looks so gay. So, I'm asking again if there's an external module for the new control unit?

Yes, I saw that. Personal taste is different, but I think it fits perfectly with it icon_biggrin.gif.

PS: The engine control unit doesn't really care what the signal from the key is. The speedometer, the immobilizer box, it hardly matters to it. icon_cool.gif icon_wink.gif

"No, I don't believe it's the case that the company doesn't care. The fact is, the new control unit and the old instrument cluster can't communicate with each other, and essentially there's only a new instrument cluster in the car. However, I heard that the Lupo has an instrument cluster in a separate box, but it's using a new language, which makes things difficult. But if you're so knowledgeable about this, maybe we could talk on the phone? Writing is such a hassle, and somehow I feel like we're not understanding each other. My number is 01702305097. Feel free to call me back."

The engine control unit doesn't care what type of instrument cluster you connect. A WFSI will be accepted just as much as a III (the WFS function in the speedometer is meant!!). These tests have been performed multiple times, and they work. The only catch each time is: swapping the transponder. Crypto 48 transponders are compatible with WFS I/II/III and are also accepted by the respective instrument clusters. A car from 1998 is therefore a WFS II, so you can connect a WFS module designed for a Lupo to it. Use new transponders, and then it will work. Wire according to the wiring diagram. Pay attention to the difference or connection of the K+W (Key and Warning) line. icon_wink.gif

You seem to know a lot! icon_biggrin.gif Then, if you'd like, could you explain the difference between the old WFS and the new one, and why would I need to change the transponder? If I get a complete WFS from a Lupo, including the key, WFS control unit, and reading coil, do I still have to change the transponder? icon_question.gif And you're saying that WFS 1, 2, or 3 doesn't matter??? How do the two communicate with each other? Via CAN or via K-line? icon_question.gif So far, I've been looking at the wiring diagram for the engine. What do you mean by "looping through" K+W? If this is visible in the WFS wiring diagram, I should be able to figure it out, but what is the K+W line used for? I think I know K+L lines! Oh yes, the control unit is from 2000.

How do the two devices communicate with each other? Via CAN or via k-line?

How one would think logically, regarding the 'old' concepts above the K or W line. icon_wink.gif
