VAG-COM: Compatible with non-VW vehicles?

Does the VAGCom program work?
For example, with the Mitsubishi Eclipse.
It also has a 16-pin diagnostic connector.
If I'm not mistaken, the occupancy should also match.
Or does this only apply to Audi, VW, Seat, and Skoda?
