Passat Idle Problem: AVB Engine Fix

I hope for your help.


Our family car has been making an uneven idling sound since early this morning, and it's a mystery to me.
- Year of manufacture: 2005, mileage: approximately 40,000 km, no chip tuning or modifications.
- No error codes found in the fault memory.

"When the engine idles for a longer period, the uneven running becomes much more noticeable. I've checked the intercooler, as far as I could with a cable lamp outside, and haven't found anything. What I did notice was a kind of oil sludge, or something similar, a black, viscous goo, which I found at the separation point between the engine and the transmission, in the direction of view below the oil filter. It's a very thick, dark black substance, which is unusual for an otherwise clean engine. As I mentioned, it's located between the oil filter and the fuel filter, in the direction of the transmission."

I once tried to take a picture of it, and I hope I can upload it...

I would say it's a disgusting bird. It's just DISGUSTING .

Wash your car sometime and don't drive so fast.

If it came out from under the clutch bell housing, it's likely the dual-mass flywheel (DMF) friction material. -> A faulty DMF is the cause of the jerking.

I went to VW, and they confirmed the diagnosis. VW will cover 50% of the material and labor costs.
