Hello,

Okay, here's the translation:

"It's me again, regarding gearboxes: I found a collection of technical data for the current Seat models, which includes information about the gearbox ratios."

The new Ibiza (6L) with a 130 hp TDI engine has something very interesting, which also contradicts what was said here some time ago, that the 6th gear of 6-speed transmissions has an overall ratio equivalent to the 5th gear of 5-speed transmissions. This seems to be roughly the case with the Leon (52 km/h in 6th at 1000 rpm), but not with the Ibiza: approximately 60 km/h in 6th at 1000 rpm. According to the same table (available for the Cordoba), the ASV has 45 km/h in 5th gear.

"Wouldn't that be something, though?"

180 at only 3000 RPM...

What do you think... whether it could potentially work (purely theoretically and aside from all legal and financial considerations)?

Here is the link: http://media.seat.com/en/ginebra02/aleman/degeneva.pdf

Best regards,

January.

Hello,

I also thought that, when combined with the 6-speed gearbox fitted to the 130hp TDI engine, it had the final drive ratio of the 5th gear. Unfortunately, your link isn't working properly for me. However, if the new Ibiza does indeed have a longer gear ratio, that would be quite a nice thing. icon_lol.gif

It's important to note that the 130 horsepower engine with a 6-speed transmission has very long gearing... My Golf runs at approximately 115 km/h in 6th gear at around 2000 rpm.

@SteffenViewing profile: Steffen:

Try using http://media.seat.com/en/ginebra02/aleman and then click on the link "technical data" below. This will open a PDF file.

Overall, they will again (as is known icon_wink.gif) have the same transmission or gear ratio in the Ibiza and Golf, while in the Passat and other models, it will correspond to the 5-speed transmission. You can find some information about this in the document; further on, the Toledo with a 6-speed transmission is mentioned, and I think it will be based on the Passat.

@Nicolaus: In which gear do you reach the maximum speed with it? Is it in 5th or 6th gear?

Best regards,

January.

In 6th gear... according to the speedometer, it's about 220 km/h (approximately 137 mph)... but according to the climate control system, it's more like 206 km/h (approximately 128 mph).

I have a Volkswagen Golf 4 with an AHF engine and an EBF transmission... which model in the SEAT lineup corresponds to the Golf? Is it the Leon?
According to the VW dealer, my 5th gear has a ratio of 30:39, which would be 0.769. However, they might have said 29:39, which would be 0.7435 (approximately 0.744).

Hello.

I was hoping to get an updated version of the various SEAT data, but both links provided by Jan lead to an error message that suggests opening www.media.seat.com instead.

After that, you end up in a dead end where only registered media outlets can proceed icon_sad.gif.

Does another link now directly lead to the technical details?

Hi Ulf,

That's rather clumsy of Seat...

If that file is okay with you, the one we talked about back then... I still have it on my hard drive, and I'd be happy to send it to you.

Unfortunately, I don't have any more recent information than that.

"On seat.de, they used to have more information available than they do now... not to mention that they should really fire their web designer, because nowadays it's truly an art to create a website that doesn't display properly with Mozilla."

Hello Ulf,

Before you buy a Seat, why not take a look at the offers from VW for the current Golf? There are very affordable financing options available... and special models (Ocean, Pacific). I hope this isn't considered advertising icon_wink.gif. I only mentioned it because the Golf generally has better resale value.

Stefan.

Hi Kenny,

Read back and see WHY Ulf is admiring that car... if the question is about a current model, that engine option hasn't been available in the Golf for a long time.

The strategy is that VW "pushes" the second-newest technology to Seat, which in this case is the 130 hp PD engine, while they themselves are already using something else (and it's probably likely that this won't be available at VW much longer, since the 2.0 engines are ready, and Seat already has the 130 hp version). It was the same with the ASV, which was one of the last vehicles to use it... and I don't regret that my Ibiza has exactly this engine icon_wink.gif. It's well-developed and solid...

Regarding resale value: Try finding a used Ibiza TDI for the original list price... I don't think they differ significantly from VWs when it comes to depreciation.

Best regards,

January.

Hi Jan,

No need, I still have the PDF file (19 pages, including the latest information on the Ibiza incident).

Thank you for your offer icon_smile.gif.

Hi Stefan,

The Golf 4 is too big for me, unnecessarily heavy (even though it's only about 35 kg), and too expensive. Also, it's more attractive to thieves...
And his is 6th gear, AFAIK, and it's shorter icon_sad.gif.

He would certainly also have advantages (DIY manuals, workshop networks, etc.), but one simply has to set one's own priorities icon_cool.gif.

Hi Stefan,

Yes.

As Jan already wrote, for example, the Ibiza reaches approximately 180 km/h at around 3000 rpm icon_cool.gif icon_biggrin.gif.

AFAIK, this is the longest 6th gear among all models offered with a 96 kW engine. However, I don't know the specific details for the Golf and similar models.

The older A3 with 130 horsepower has the same gear ratio.

'I mean, the 100 HP version has a ridiculously long fifth gear. Take a look at that in the PDF. Maybe it would already be sufficient. Because when it's installed, you can practically change it quite easily.'
