Hello,
What should I consider if I want to install a different, but functionally equivalent, instrument cluster? I heard that you have to adjust the WFS, is that true?
The car is an A6, type 4B.
Thank you and best regards.
Okay, here's the translation:

Hello Achim!
I replaced mine last year because the display on the FIS was slowly dissolving (a problem in the model year 98)). As far as I know, you have to be careful whether you're installing a combination instrument with or without a CAN bus (up to model year 00 without CAN bus). The actual replacement itself is child's play. However, as you suspected, you need to adjust the WFS. You can only do this yourself if you have the code. Otherwise, just go to your Audi workshop; they can request the code and adjust the WFS accordingly. I had already removed the combination instrument and then went to Audi. They connected the new one and made the necessary adjustments. I then installed it myself. It cost around 20 euros.
Regards,
DENNIS

Hi Dennis, thanks for your quick reply!
Somewhere, I read that it's possible to read a 15-digit code using VAG-Com, which Audi uses to generate the 7-digit immobilizer code? Is that so?
Does this have anything to do with the code that comes with my spare key?
Best regards, Achim. |

Hello Achim!
I'm not entirely sure anymore, but I think it's the 7-digit code on the spare key (is it possible to retrieve it?). But I'm not absolutely sure about that, either!
'In any case, Audi generates the correct code from the serial number of the instrument cluster. Unfortunately, I can't tell you exactly how to use this code with VAG-Com to 'activate' the WFS right now.' I've never tried it myself.
