Hello!

Today I received an OBDII adapter, downloaded the text version of VAGCom, and, armed with Schleppi, I embarked on a journey of self-diagnosis.
When reading the error memory (01 - Engine), I received the following error message:

18261 - Data bus, drive system: Implausible message from ABS - SG 35-00.

It's a 12/01 model with a 96kW PD ASZ engine.

What is this error trying to tell me?

Is there a description of the individual functions of VAGcom available? I have the manual on how to use the program, but I'm missing a guide that explains how to perform specific tasks (e.g., enabling the auto-lock function, etc.).
'Talk about what an average user can do with this thing.' (Topic: Readyness or Calibration Blocks)

Regards...

Hello,

This error indicates a problem with the CAN bus connection between the engine control unit (ECU) and the anti-lock braking system (ABS) control unit.

Please review the search function, error database, and various technical articles before asking any further questions.
Tschüss

Sorry, but I was also able to read from the error message that there is a problem between the ABS and engine control units.

With my question, I was trying to find out what kind of error it might be (e.g., a loose cable connection, a faulty sensor, etc.).
Furthermore, it would be interesting to know if I should take it to the workshop. It could also be a fault that occurs occasionally but is not significant, as it only appears temporarily due to environmental factors.

Regarding the other question:

Have you ever tried searching for 'VAG Com' along with terms like 'help' or 'instructions'?
I don't think it's useful to look through 7 pages, especially when they only contain topics that are unlikely to be helpful.
After browsing through several topics where I couldn't find anything relevant to the subject, I had to give up icon_sad.gif.

I also didn't find anything in the error database.

A simple answer like 'Yes, such guides exist' or 'No, they don't, because the program is only intended for workshops in conjunction with repair manuals' would have been sufficient.

Perhaps I didn't express myself clearly.

A small workshop would be great. It should cover the task at hand, the applicable equipment, and the procedure. In short, the things that are needed and can be accessed in everyday operations.
I don't have as much knowledge about diesel engines as many people here, but I hope that the more experienced members will help those who are new to the topic.

I hope I'm not asking too much icon_smile.gif.

Greetings from Berlin.

Hello,

The CAN bus consists of two twisted-pair wires. You're unlikely to find sensors directly connected between control units. And it's likely that there's a break or a loose connection somewhere along that line.
There's not much more to say about it than what the error message itself indicates.

The fact that you found nothing in the error database clearly shows that you didn't take the search very seriously.
There are articles about login codes, customization channels, the effects of modifications, how to code the central locking system for VW and Audi, and much more.
In the technical articles, guides, and tips & tricks sections, you will find reference values for measurement blocks, troubleshooting programs, and much more.

Tip: Just take a closer look.
Tschüss

Hello Jay_dee,

There are countless use cases for VAG-Com in troubleshooting, guides, and technical articles.
Essentially, it's just a program for modifying and reading control unit settings, as well as for accessing measurement data.
You can find information on how each component and control unit functions in the corresponding repair manual.
When you buy a wrench, an instruction manual for replacing the cylinder head gasket on vehicle XYZ is not included icon_wink.gif.

Best regards, Rainer.
